With periodic showers throughout the Indianapolis are through the week, race fans might be on edge thinking that the traditional Memorial Day Indy 500 will be a washout. But never fear, say meteorologists, the clouds should part and give us perfect racing weather.

Through today, the rains may persist and a crisp 67 degrees is the high for the area, but these showers should break up and move out of the area over qualifying Saturday, when partly cloudy conditions will see temperatures start to climb.

By Sunday the cloud should mostly be out of the way, giving us blue skies for the most part, and with temperatures expected to reach 84 degrees, it will certainly feel like the start of summer is upon us.

While spectators should be loving the weather, drivers will have a different set of priorities. With the humidity lingering in the air even after the rain clouds lift, and the temperatures rising only on the day of the race, there could still be dangers for drivers if the oil in the tarmac is drawn to the top of the race surface.

But whatever the weather throws at the track, the crews and drivers will be on top of the changes needed to make this year’s Indy 500 a great one.
