2023 Formula 1 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix: The lay of the land

Whether you’re a Red Bull fan or not, it would be easy to assume that they will dominate the track in 2023 after their casual victory in Bahrain. Indeed, reigning world champion, Max Verstappen and his teammate Sergio Perez cruised to victory to give the team a 1 and 2 finish, essentially putting the rest of the field on notice. Yet, we’re only at the second race of the season, which is to say it would be a mistake to believe that Mercedes and seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton won’t have something to say about it, as well as Formula 1 giants Ferrari, who will be looking to improve after Charles Leclerc suffered a frustrating DNF in Bahrain.

Where the track itself is concerned, Jeddah provides a temporary street circuit which measures some 6.17km. The lap record was set by Lewis Hamilton in 2021 and stands at 1:30.734. That’s to say, that when all is said and done, this track is extremely fast. With average speeds around the circuit standing at 250km/h Jeddah is quicker than Silverstone and second only to Monza. Truth be told, this track is as good as it gets, which means you can expect to see the kind of high-octane action that you want in a Formula 1 race. Conversely, the track also has the most corners on the calendar with 27, meaning you’re in for a showcase in dexterity. Don’t miss it!
