Lando Norris and McLaren kickstart the new season with victory in Melbourne
The 2025 Formula 1 season is officially underway. Lando Norris got McLaren off to a strong start by winning the Australian Grand Prix.
The 2025 Formula 1 season has officially begun, with Lando Norris claiming victory at the Australian Grand Prix and securing pole position, giving McLaren an almost perfect start to the championship.
However, his teammate Oscar Piastri faced challenges late in the race, spinning out and ultimately finishing in ninth place.
“We worked a lot over the winter to prepare for a race like this, because it’s where we threw away a lot of opportunities last season - Canada, Silverstone, where we were not the best at preparing and knowing how decisive we’ve got to be,” Norris told reporters afterwards. “Today we were very, very decisive, calling to box five metres before I boxed. But it was the right call in the end, and that won us the race”.
Verstappen, second
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured second place, delivering a solid performance (+0.895) while, George Russell from Mercedes rounded out the podium with a strong third-place finish (+8.481).
