Eagles 20 vs 17 Chiefs summary, score, stats and highlights | NFL Week 2

Mahomes tried to will his team back into the game, but it was just a matter of two little too late. The bad bounce of Kelce's hands that led to the interception meant it was going to be near impossible to come back on this Philly team, but Mahomes threw a dime to Tyquan Thornton on a 49 yard TD pass to give the Chiefs fans hope. 

KC tried an onside kick with 3:00 to go in the game, and it was recovered by AJ Brown. A first down with another tush push sealed the game, and secured the win for Philly while knocking the Chiefs to 0-2 after two weeks. 

Everyone in Arrowhead knew it was coming but no one could stop it. The tush push proved unstoppable once again as Hurts got his customary rushing TD after lining up with the big boys down low. Hurts only had 101 yards on 15/22 passing, and 15 yards on 9 rushes but it was enough for Philly to ice the game late, especially with how the defense was playing. 

Jalen Hurts didn't throw the ball too much, and when he did he almost never threw it down field, but on this massive 3rd and 10 he felt the pressure coming and hit DeVonta Smith with a rainbow inside the five yard line. Once the Eagles were nestled close to the end zone everyone knew what was coming. 

The Chiefs responded and Mahomes marched his team down the field and had them in position to take the lead early in the 4th quarter, but Andrew Mukuba came up with a massive interception and return that turned the game on it's head. 

It was all square after the first two quarters, and the Chiefs took a big chance out of the halftime break, They went for a fourth down conversion deep in their own territory just two minutes into the third quarter, and Philly made them pay. The Eagles held Kareem Hunt on the 4th down run and that set up a Jake Elliott field goal to put the Eagles up by 3. 

With a terribly depleted WR corps, Patrick Mahomes seemed like he had to put the weight of the team on his shoulders. That exactly what he did for most of the game,  doing it with his legs more than his arm. He had 7 rushes for 66 yards, most of those came in the first half. 

The Philadelphia Eagles went into the Kansas City Chiefs house and made sure there would be no revenge exacted in the Week 2 Super Bowl rematch. It was a defensive struggle for all four quarters, and the Eagles defense came up with the play that changed the game. 

Neither team found their offensive flow in the first quarter, but the Eagles finally built a drive and Saquon Bakley put the first points on the board with a 13 yard TD run.

Neither QB has many yard passing after two quarters. Hurts has 62 on 12/17 passing and Mahomes is 6/11 for 51 yards, but he has 60 yards rushing and this TD. He has put the team on his back with a lot of fire power sitting on the sidelines. 

Barkley's also got a couple of catches, and he gave us one of the highlights of the first half. 

Both offense struggled to move the ball for the first quarter of the game, but this Saquon TD run seemed to open things up for each team. Barkley has just 6 carries for 30 yards and this TD.

Reid after "BYE"

I get it, this isn’t a BYE per say, but both the Chiefs and the Eagles are coming into this game with a little extra prep time after games on Thursday and Friday. Philly played on Thursday, and they played in Dallas. The Chiefs played on Friday and had to travel from Sao Paulo, so it’s not exactly a BYE week for KC, but they had some extra days to prep, and when Andy Reid gets time to prepare his guys, that usually means rouble for the other team. Reid is 21-4 following BYE weeks, and like I said I know this isn’t a BYE but if you think this team isn’t going to be ready for this rematch to avoid dropping to 0-2, think again. 

Look back at the Super Bowl

It was over early from New Orleans last year. KC was looking to make a historic three peat, but that dream was over before they ever had a chance.  The Eagles smacked the Chiefs around from the start and never let up. Hurts scored a rushing TD to start the onslaught, then Cooper DeJean took a Patrick Mahomes interception to the house and an A.J. Brown TD catch and the Eagles up 24-0 at halftime while the defense held the Chiefs to just one first down for the first half hour of the game. Philly would stretch the lead out to 34-0 in the third quarter with a Hurts deep ball to Devonte Smith to put the icing on the cake for the Eagles who would win 40-22 in one of the more lopsided games in recent Super Bowl history. 

The Honey Badger retired last season, but the former Chief is back in Arrowhead today for this massive Week 2 match up. 

Star watch: Eagles

This section is usually reserved for quarterbacks, but when you have Saquon Barkley in the backfield, the star watch obviously is going to be centered around him. After rushing for 2,000 yards and winning the Super Bowl in his first year in Philly what does this year have in store for the Offensive Player of Last Year. Last year he got 18 carries and had a TD run but he was held to 60 yards on the ground. The Eagles are going to have to be a lot more effective with the run game today if they are going to come out of KC with a win. 

Worthy out today

With no Rashee Rice until the middle of October, the Chiefs were going to rely on Xavier Worthy even more to start the season. That plan was spoiled as soon as Worthy got hurt on the first series of the Week 1 loss to the Chargers. He suffered a torn labrum in his shoulder when he collided with Travis Kelce just seconds into the game, and he will be out today against the Eagles. Reports suggest he might be able to play next week against the New York Giants, but if he does he’ll still be feeling the affects of the shoulder injury and will have to play with a harness according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. 

Star watch: Chiefs

We all know that Patrick Mahomes is the engine that powers this Chiefs dynasty, but this week that’s going to be the case even more over the next few weeks. The Chiefs are short handed and that means that Mahomes is going to carry even more of the offensive burden. Mahomes went 24/39 for 258 yards and 1 TD last week and rushed for another 57 yards and a TD. He had a down year last season, but he may not have any other option but to air it out all season. He’s a two time NFL MVP and a three time Super Bowl Champion, and we have seen him able to carry a team on his back before. The question is will he be able to do it today and for the entire season?

Last game: Eagles 

The Eagles didn’t exactly look like the Eagles we saw back in February last Thursday night. It was Week 1, so we can excuse them, but they allowed points on the Cowboys first four scoring drives of the first half. The good news was the Eagles offense was able to keep up thanks to a couple of Jalen Hurts rushing TDs and a Saquon Barkley 10 yard TD run. It was 21-20 Eagles at halftime, and that when the Eagles defense took the game over. Philly kicked a field goal to start the third quarter, and the defense forced a red zone fumble with the Cowboys knocking on the door on the 10 yard line. That was the last time the Cowboys would come close to scoring until the last play of the game in which CeeDee Lamb dropped a pass from Dak Prescott that would have put the Cowboys in scoring position.

Last game Chiefs 

The Chiefs opened up the season against a tough Los Angeles Chargers team, and to make matters worse, they did it down in Sao Paulo. Xavier Worthy got hurt on the first drive of the game, and that put a kink in the plan of Andy Reid and KC. KC went three and out on two of their first three drives, while the Chargers marched down the field and put a touchdown on the board on their first possession. The offense picked up in the second quarter but the Chargers D still held KC to field goals and went into the halftime break up 13-6. The defining moment in the game was the missed PAT after Mahomes had an 11 yard TD scramble early in the 3rd quarter. Instead of tying up the game, the Chiefs trailed by one, and the Chargers answered back putting up a TD on the board and going up by 8. Travis Kelce, who was quiet all night, broke free for a long TD catch and run, but an unsuccessful two point conversion made life even more difficult for KC. Quentin Johnston caught a 23 yard wheel route to make it a two score game and Justin Herbert closed the game out late with a 19 yard scramble on 3rd and long drop the Chiefs to 0-1.
