Barcelona 3-2 Real Madrid
FC Barcelona-Real Madrid (Spanish Super Cup final) match report
In a thrilling encounter at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, FC Barcelona overcame Real Madrid 3-2 to claim the 2026 Spanish Super Cup. The match was a quintessential El Clásico, defined by a chaotic first half and a resilient defensive stand by the Catalans in the final minutes.
Barcelona dictated the early tempo, controlling nearly 75% of possession, but the scoreboard remained dormant until the 36th minute when Raphinha broke the deadlock. The opening goal ignited a “manic” period of stoppage-time action where three goals were scored in just five minutes as Vini bagged his first goal in 16 games to offer a sliver of hope for Madrid before Robert Lewandowski immediately restored Barcelona's lead as Gonzalo García leveled it again at 2-2 just seconds before the halftime whistle.
The second half saw both managers, Hansi Flick and Xabi Alonso, looking for an edge. The breakthrough came in the 73rd minute when Raphinha struck a low effort that took a fortunate deflection off Madrid defender Raúl Asencio, tricking Thibaut Courtois to make it 3-2.
Desperate for an equalizer, Madrid brought on Kylian Mbappé, who returned from a knee injury for the final 15 minutes. The tension peaked in stoppage time when Frenkie de Jong received a straight red card for a professional foul on Mbappé, leaving Barcelona to defend with 10 men. Despite a late barrage of Madrid corners and a heroic double-save by goalkeeper Joan García, Barcelona held firm to secure their record-extending 16th Super Cup title.
First silverware of the season goes to Barça
FC Barcelona retain the Super Cup
And now, Ronald Araujo will lift the famous trophy....
The Uruguayan lifts the cup as the ticker tape drowns the FC Barcelona squad on the centre stage.
An impressive fireworks show along with the inevitable ‘We Are the Champions’ (Queen) rings out.

Now, it is the turn of beaten finalists again as Los Blancos are awarded their consolation medals.
The presentation ceremony is now underway with the match officials getting their medals.
What a game... a final that had everything....
A bitter blow for Real Madrid to lose to their bitter rivals.
What will be the fallout for Xabi Alonso ? Time will tell, but the showing from his side in the second half was so much better after a lacklustre first 45.
Congratulations to FC Barcelona who, on the night were probably the better side.
A solid performance from Pedri, Lamine Yamal and an exquisite showing from Raphinha.
2026 Super Cup winners
The whistle sounds and FC Barcelona are 2026 Spanish Super Cup champions.
We've played over seven minutes of added time as Courtis comes up for a last gasp corner.
Another header from Madrid and, once again headed straight at Garcia from Asencio.
Carreras can win this but no.... the former Benfica man hits the ball straight at Garcia and that was the chance for Los Blancos.
A huge left-off for Barça.
Rashford is through and can put this out of sight....
The English striker heads for goal and that is a poor strike as he screws the ball wide.
Araujo is a late, late sub for Barcelona and he replaces Lamine Yamal.
Barça looking to close the game out and win back to back Super Cups for the first time since 2011.
So, Barcelona must play out added time with just ten men as five minutes of added time have been confirmed.
De Jong is red carded for a rash challenge on Mbappé.
Munuera Montero didn't think twice and immediatly awarded then red.
Could defeat here lead to the end of the line for Xabi Alonso?
It would be cruel for the former Leverkusen coach but such is the pressure and demands at the likes of Real Madrid.
Rashford breaks free but a loose touch sees the former Man United man run out of space.
We've yet to see Mbappé in action.
Time is slipping away for Xabi Alonso's men.

Dani Olmo goes close but the ball is wide of the target and poses no problems for Courtois.
Just under ten minutes left now for Real Madrid as Dani Ceballos is ready to enter the fray.
Real Madrid have had to come from behind twice in this Super Cup final, can they do it a third time ?
Less than 15 minutes remain in Jeddah as FC Barcelona look to retain possession and make the opposition chase things down.

Barcelona take the lead again
Double from the Brazilian .... Can Barça hold this advantage now ?

Solid save from Courtois denying Lamine Yamal from close range.
The tempo has dropped ever so slightly with tired legs inevitably becoming a factor.
Mbappé now warming up on Madrid bench.
Just over 20 minutes remain in Jeddah.
Chances at a premium as things stand but Real Madrid have really made a fist of things in this second 45'.
Vinicius takes the captains armband as the Uruguayan exits the pitch.
Arda Guler on for Valverde
Changes for Barça:
Dani Olmo and Ferran on for Fermin Lopez and Lewandowski
A very different final now with Madrid very much back in the mix.
We need a goal otherwise the winner of the Super Cup will be decided from the penalty spot.
First card of the night is awarded to Asencio.
A rash challenge from the Madrid man as he scythes into Pedri with no effort to play the ball.
Valverde could be booked too as he shoves Raphinha.
Confirmed: Asencio, Eric Garcia and Valverde are all cautioned.
The showing from Los Blancos is so much better in this second half.
Vinicius is enjoying himself with his confidence boosted by his first goal in months.
Barça free and Raphinha dinks the ball over the bar.
Vini goes close with a fine right footed strike as Joan Garcia spills the ball back into open play and at the second bite, the Brazilian striker drills the ball high and wide.
The second half beginning in a manner very reminiscent of the first with Barcelona enjoying swathes of possession as Madrid look to find Vini Jr. to launch counter attacks.
Just a reminder that there will be no extra time in the Spanish Super Cup if the match is level after 90 minutes.
Starting with the 2025 edition (and continuing in 2026), the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) updated the rules to eliminate the 30-minute extra time period. If the scores are tied at the end of regulation, the match proceeds directly to a penalty shootout.
Second half is moments away with the teams back on the field of play.
Madrid will kick-off and just to add that there have been no changes at the interval.
FC Barcelona will be annoyed to head into the interval level in a half they have dominated and reduced Madrid to playing on the counter attack.
Bossing possession, it felt that the opening goal for the Catalan side was always on the cards and Raphinha got the breakthrough in the 36rd minute.
It was in added time when the game lost all semblance of shape and organisation as a fine solo effort from Vinicius drew Madrid level.
In the next passage of play, a sumptuous finish from Lewandowski made it 2-1 for the Azulgrana and then a minute later Gonzalo Garcia stabbed the ball home with the assistance of the crossbar to draw Xabi Alonso's men level at the break.
All square in Jeddah
Three goals in the space of five minutes.
Vini makes it 1-1, Lewandowski makes to 2-1 and then in the next passage of play, Gonzalo draws the game.
Wow...what a crazy end to the Super Cup final!
Half time in Jeddah at the end of of a wild, wild conclusion to this Spanish Super Cup.
Would you believe it....
Madrid draw level and it's Gonzalo who finds the net for Los Blancos.
Lewandowski restores Barcelona's advantage and it's the Polish striker who finds the net.
What a dramatic end to the half.
No hint of an offside and the finish is exquisite from the veteran striker.
FCB 1-1 RMCF
Vini gets his goal.
What a run from the Brazilian as his solo strike draws Real Madrid level on the stroke of half-time.
Great run and game on in Jeddah.
Into the final minute of the half as Lamine Yamal continues to delight the Barça fans at the Alinma Bank Stadium as the Spain international has eased his way into the contest.
We'll have three minutes of added time.
We'll find out the extent of Mbappé's injury in the second half.
Will Real Madrid take a chance on the French striker?
Just how injured is Madrid's No.9?
All will be revealed.
Real Madrid are reeling and you have to say that the goal was coming.
Xabi Alonso's gameplan seems limited to hitting the Catalan side on the break but in the 40 or so minutes played to date, Flick's men are very much in control of proceedings.
Raphinha fires Barça ahead in Jeddah
Goooooool.
Barça lead in Jeddah.
Raphinha makes amends a minute later and first blood Barça.
What a pass from Lamine as he finds Raphina but the Brazilian screws the ball wide of the target.
A huge let off for Real Madrid but what a pass that was from the BarçaNo. 10.
Cooling break time which offers Xabi Alonso and Hansi Flick to impart some advice for their respective teams.
Barcelona rampant in possession and frustrating Madrid. Vini had the best chance for Los Blancos and really should have passed but opted for the strike which was easy for Joan Garcia.
Raphinha has come closest for the Catalan side.
Possession stats after half an hour
FC Barcelona 76-24 Real Madrid (%)
A sense of frustration creeping into Real Madrid's play as they are being denied any time on the ball.
Carreras and Bellingham have shown signs of frustration with reckless tackles and both players are lucky to have avoided the wrath of the match official.
Raphinha strikes and forces a decent save from Courtois.
Lamine Yamal is fouled and the referee needs to appeal for calm after a rash challenge from Carreras.
The former Benfica man is very, very lucky indeed to escape with no yellow card.
Twenty minutes have elapsed in Jeddah.
Just the one shot on target for either side (Vini Jr for Real Madrid) with Barcelona still enjoying the bulk of possession.
A clear pattern forming in the game now with Barça holding the ball and Madrid causing issues on the counter attack.
Vini breaks, Vini sees the target, Vini strikes the ball straight at Joan Garcia and the Brazilian really should have slid the ball through to the unmarked Gonzalo.
Real Madrid really struggling to retain any time on the ball as Barça are terrier-like in their efforts to win the ball back.
Having said all that, despite their dominance in possession, Barça have yet to test Courtois in the Real Madrid goal.
Possession stats after 12 minutes:
FC Barcelona 81-19 Real Madrid (%)
It's been a bright start to the final with both sides enjoying spells on the ball but Barça do look the livelier of the two teams and are the team with more initiative.
What a run from Pedri as the Canary Islander skips past a series of Madrid defenders, he eventually runs out of space and the side from the Bernabeu are able to clear and look to strike on the counter attack.
Barça very much on top in the opening stages of the contest.
Lamine Yamal gets a massive cheer with his first touch of the evening,.
The Barça No.10 very much a star attraction for the fans here in Jeddah.
Solid atmosphere inside the stadium with Barcelona enjoying an early spell in possession.

Flick, the king of finals
The German coach has never lost a final....
Five wins with Bayern Munich and two victories as Barça boss....
With kick-off imminent, a reminder of how tonight's teams line up.
No Mbappé for Real Madrid as Lewandowski and Lamine both start for the Catalan side.

Xabi Alonso looking to emulate Schuster feat
Only six Real Madrid head coaches have managed to win their first two El Clasico games in the history of the club with this particular feat last being achieved back in 2007-08 by Bernd Schuster.
Barça XI confirmed
Hansi Flick has announced his Super Cup starting line up:
Joan García; Koundé, Cubarsí, Eric García, Balde; De Jong, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Fermín, Raphinha; Lewandowski.
Valverde captains the side with everything pointing to Kylian Mbappé making an appearance at some point in the second half.

Flick opts for flair players
Hansi Flick has shaken up his starting XI and is expected to go with a Barcelona side packed with footballing quality. The German brings Eric García back into defense and deploys Frenkie de Jong as the holding midfielder, with Pedri and Fermín ahead of him. The idea is for Pedri to dictate play, while the Fermin will be the spearhead looking to attack space from the second line.
Up front, Lamine is expected to start, with Ferran Torres getting the nod in the final ahead of Lewandowski. Raphinha is untouchable.
Barcelona, Mbappé’s favorite opponent
The Frenchman has scored 12 goals against Barcelona across all competitions wearing the shirts of PSG and Real Madrid. Only against Montpellier (15) and Lyon (13) has he scored more in his career (he also has 12 against Dijon, Marseille and Metz).

Raphinha shines in El Clásico
Raphinha, who scored twice and added an assist in last season’s Super Cup final against Real Madrid, has now been involved in eight goals in El Clásico across all competitions (five goals, three assists).
He has scored more goals against Real Madrid than against any other team as a Barcelona player (five, level with Benfica), and only against Valencia does he have more total goal involvements than against Los Blancos (nine, five goals and four assists, compared with eight against Madrid).

Xabi goes for his first title in white
Xabi Alonso could lift his first trophy as Real Madrid coach today. He has already won his first El Clásico against Barcelona and could become the seventh Real Madrid manager to win his first two meetings against the blaugrana, after Francisco Bru (1934 and 1935), Juan Armet (1941 and 1942), Luis Carniglia (1957 and 1958), Miguel Muñoz (both in 1960), Vujadin Boškov (both in 1980) and Bernd Schuster (2007 and 2008).

The home of the Spanish Supercopa
The Alinma Stadium, located in the northern part of Jeddah, will host the crowning of Spain’s new Supercopa champion for the second straight year. With a capacity of just over 60,000, the venue sits within the King Abdullah Sports City complex.
The stadium is used by both Al Ittihad, where Karim Benzema currently plays, and Al Ahli, the club where Gabri Veiga previously featured and which went on to win the Asian title. Al Ahli lifted that continental trophy at this very stadium, on home soil, in what stands as one of the most significant matches ever staged here.
The venue has also hosted the 2019 Supercoppa Italiana (Juventus 1, AC Milan 0), as well as two previous editions of the Supercopa de España — in 2020, won by Real Madrid, and in 2025, claimed by Barcelona.
Vinícius’ message: “Faith! Hala Madrid!”
The Brazilian posted a story on his official Instagram account before the Real Madrid squad set off for King Abdullah Stadium.
Mbappé set for the second half
He arrived, trained and will play — but not from the start. The French forward, who arrived in Jeddah on Friday night and completed the final training session ahead of the Supercopa final without any issues, is not expected to start, according to our colleague Rubén Martín. That would make Kylian Mbappé Xabi Alonso's trump card off the bench in what will be his sixth Clásico, with a record of six goals, four defeats and one win.
If confirmed, Xabi Alonso would name the same starting XI for Real Madrid that faced Real Betis (5–1) and Atlético de Madrid (2–1).
Two Supercopa heavyweights go head to head: Barça with 15 titles, Madrid with 13
Barcelona and Real Madrid are the two most decorated teams and the most frequent finalists in the history of the Supercopa de España. Barça have lifted the trophy 15 times and are playing in their 28th final. The side from Madrid, meanwhile, have won 13 titles and are appearing in their 20th final.
This will be the 11th Supercopa final between Barcelona and Real Madrid, and the fourth under the current single-match format. The team from the capitalhas won seven of the previous ten finals between the two clubs in this competition, although Barça have taken two of the three played under the new format, in 2022–23 and 2024–25.
Barça chasing a 10th straight win
Since their 3–0 Champions League victory over Chelsea, Barça have done nothing but win. Alavés, Atlético de Madrid, Real Betis, Eintracht Frankfurt, Osasuna, Guadalajara, Villarreal, Espanyol, and Athletic Club have all been beaten. In total, Barça have won 21 of their last 27 matches across all competitions.
Real Madrid and a five-game winning streak
Real Madrid's last defeat came in the Champions League. It was on December 10 against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu. Since then, Alavés, Talavera, Sevilla, Real Betis, and Atlético de Madrid have all fallen to the team from the Spanish capital. What’s interesting is that despite the run of victories, the team is immersed in a full-blown crisis.
