100 days before the 2022 World Cup: USMNT preparing for Qatar
The World Cup is getting closer and the USMNT will return to the greatest football tournament after missing Russia in 2018.
The United States Men’s National Team is getting closer to returning to a World Cup. The USMNT will kick-off their own World Cup party on Monday 21 November against Wales, a side led by LAFC star Gareth Bale.
How is the United States National Team 100 days before the World Cup?
Gregg Berhalter
Berhalter is on a mission to take the US to another level and make history at the greatest celebration of soccer. He was present in Korea-Japan 2002, where the United States had its best tournament in recent times, reaching the quarterfinals.
Key players
Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, Brenden Aaronson, Sergiño Dest, Antonee Robinson and Tyler Adams will be hoping for regular game time with their respective clubs this season.
Pulisic (Chelsea), McKennie (Juventus) and Dest (Barcelona), could see their activity at risk for the World Cup due to the tough competition they face at their clubs.
On the other hand, players like Aaronson (Leeds), Adams (Leeds) and Robinson (Fulham), are the candidates to have more minutes and arrive at the World Cup in Qatar match sharp. All this is thanks to the fact that the first two are part of North American Jesse Marsch’s project in the Premier League and the latter is an undisputed starter with the Craven Cottage outfit.
Although three of the US goalkeepers play in England, Matt Turner could be the one selected to play, since he will compete for a place next to Aaron Ramsdale at Arsenal in the Premier League; Zack Steffen and Ethan Horvath will be playing in the English Championship.
Doubts up front
Jordan Pefok, Jesús Ferreira, Haji Wright and Brandon Vázquez will all be watched closely by Berhalter as he decides his squad for the World Cup this winter.
