Liga MX’s latest coaching casualty: How many so far in the Clausura 2026?
This weekend, Club León’s Nacho Ambriz became the latest head coach in Liga MX to depart his post during the Clausura.

The Liga MX Clausura 2026 has already seen significant movement on the sidelines. Through 11 matchdays, four clubs have reshaped their sporting projects after results fell short of expectations. Monterrey, León, Santos Laguna, and Mazatlán all made changes at the head coaching position in hopes of redirecting their campaigns before the tournament reaches its decisive stretch.
Sánchez steps in for Torrent
The first shake‑up came at Monterrey, who parted ways with Spanish manager Domènec Torrent after a 284‑day spell in charge. In the Clausura 2026, Torrent oversaw seven league matches, finishing with three wins and four losses. In the CONCACAF Champions Cup, Monterrey faced Guatemala’s Xelajú MC in a two‑leg series, earning one draw and one victory.
Following Torrent’s departure, the front office appointed Argentine coach Nicolás Sánchez as his replacement. Since taking over, Sánchez has managed three official matches: two in Liga MX - splitting them with one win and one loss - and one in the Champions Cup, which ended unfavorably for the Rayados.
León’s Ambriz the latest casualty
The most recent change occurred at Club León. Mexican coach Ignacio Ambriz resigned on Saturday, bringing an end to his 167‑day tenure. Under his direction, La Fiera played eight matches in the current tournament, posting three wins, one draw, and four defeats. As of now, the club’s board has not announced a successor, though a decision is expected in the coming days.

Santos and Mazatlán bosses out after short stints
Santos Laguna also made an early adjustment. Spaniard Francisco Rodríguez’s stint concluded after just five matches in the Clausura 2026, a period in which the team from Torreón recorded four losses and one draw. The club selected Mexican coach Omar Tapia to take over on the bench. Since stepping into the role, Tapia has led the side in four league fixtures, collecting one win, one draw, and two losses.
Lastly, Mazatlán FC restructured its sporting project as well. Mexican manager Christian Ramírez lasted only 19 days in charge, overseeing three Clausura 2026 matches - all resulting in defeats for the Sinaloa‑based team. The board then named veteran coach Sergio Bueno as his successor. Bueno has guided Mazatlán through six matches so far, posting a record of three wins, one draw, and two losses.
