Cultured Controversy
Qatar's logo for the tournament encapsulated many interesting aspects of the country's rich history and culture as well as it's location, as seen in the image below. On top of that, the nation provided perhaps one of the most exciting tournaments to date.
Yet, it's got to be said that the logo also elicited a large amount of animosity. Not for it's imagery, but rather because of the immense negative press that Qatar received, due to the treatment of migrant workers who were used to build the stadiums.
With that said, it represents one more step in the evolution of FIFA World Cup logos, as it departed from the previous trend of 'flat' abstract representations, to a more three dimensional image.
