A new start for Aubameyang under Lampard?
Chelsea’s new manager has already tried to sign the striker on two occasions.
Chelsea forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be one of the major benefactors from the appointment of Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge after a frustrating spell at the London club. Thomas Tuchel’s surprise departure at the start of the season, in September, dashed Aubameyang’s hopes of working with the German tactician, with whom he had already played for at Borussia Dortmund.
Since the start of the year, the experienced striker has fallen out of favour. Since arriving at the club from Barcelona, where he regained his confidence, he has been left aside due to the fierce competition in the forward line. In the last ten games, he wasn’t even in the squad for seven and three goals and one assist for Chelsea. Now, after being linked with a departure in the winter window, it could all change with Lampard’s arrival.
Lampard a fan of Aubameyang
The English coach had already tried to sign the former Barcelona man on two occasions. The first time was in his first venture in charge of the Stamford Bridge club. Petr Cech, at the time the sporting director and who had shared a dressing room with the Gabonese at Arsenal, gave the green light to the signing, which was finally rejected because of his age.
Out for Madrid clash
At Everton, in the 2021 winter transfer window, they also wanted him, and tried to take advantage of his punishment at Arsenal. However, Barcelona were quicker. This time, it could be a case of third-time lucky but he cannot be registered in the Champions League, and will therefore miss the tie against Real Madrid.
