AC Milan’s new away kit features nod to club’s European Cup/Champions League wins
Serie A winners AC Milan unveiled their 2022/23 away shirt on Friday, the Rossoneri including a detail that makes reference to their European track record.
After a historic year that ended with Scudetto number 19, AC Milan’s goal this year is to re-establish themselves as a force in the Champions League as well. On Friday, the Rossoneri presented their new, all-white away kit - a colour in which they have tasted glory so many times in the European Cup. And indeed the jersey comes with a detail that proudly recalls the legendary history of the Milanisti.
Horizontal stripes honour Milan’s European track record
In addition to the ‘tricolore’ patch in the centre - the symbol worn by the reigning Italian champions - seven horizontal black and red stripes appear on the shirt, representing the club’s seven European titles.
Shirt draws on 84/85 away jersey
The shirt is inspired by the 1984/85 away kit, which “kicked off a new era of dominance for the club, Milan explained: “They went on to win five more European titles [having already lifted the trophy in 1963 and 1969], wearing a white kit in every single final.”
Milan legend Franco Baresi said of the shirt: “Having worn the original 1984/85 away kit, I truly love the inspiration behind the new away jersey for next season. The white jersey always has a special meaning for all AC Milan fans as it is a symbol of the global success of our beloved club.”
