Alexandre Pato has not been able to shine in Major League Soccer since arriving in 2021 at Orlando City due to injuries. Last season the 32-year-old only made four appearances and started one game because he suffered a right knee injury in the 80th minute in his first match in MLS against Atlanta United.

Another setback for Pato

The former Brazil international bounced back in his second year with Orlando by scoring three goals, provided six assists in 22 appearances this season. Unfortunately, Pato could miss the rest of the 2022 MLS campaign because he will fly back to Brazil to have an exploratory knee surgery following an injury he suffered on 13 August.

The surgery will take place on 9 September and it is not known when he will be available to return. Alexandre Pato suffered the injury in the 41st minute of the Lions’ 1-0 road win over the New York Red Bulls. The 32-year-old collided with Dru Yearwood following a cross from Facundo Torres and after the play he was stretchered off the field.

Pato is an incredible competitor and we’re sad to see him suffer this injury. But we know he will work to get back on the field even stronger,” Orlando City Executive Vice President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi said in a club press release. “We’re ready to support and help him in every way necessary through his recovery.”
