Alexis Vega and Chicote Calderón reported for duty with Chivas on Thursday, amid rumours of their departure from the club. Both players were dropped from the squad during the last campaign due to disciplinary issues and were later allowed to return to the squad then coached by Veljko Paunovic.

There were even rumours that they would not be present for the start of pre-season, but both went to the clinic owned by Rafael Ortega to undergo the necessary tests, before the start of the Clausura 2024 Liga MX season. However, their presence is no guarantee that they will remain at the club.

Pair to leave Chivas

Reports coming from the club claim that both will leave Chivas in the next few days. In the case of Chicote Calderón, his contract with the Rebaño Sagrado ends on 31 December 2023 but before that date, he is obliged to report to all the club’s activities.

It has been reported in recent weeks that he tried to renew his contract with the side, but the negotiations did not come to fruition due to differences between the two parties. On the one hand, the player’s representatives proposed an agreement including a salary increase, while the club offered a lower salary, something that was not accepted.

Vega’s situation

Vega’s contract with Guadalajara expires in the middle of next year and he could join Cruz Azul, however, no deal has been finalised. Another option is that the player does indeed decide to stay on for the remainder of his contract and leave on a free at the end of it.

New faces are expected to arrive at Chivas, but no new names have been finalised by sporting director Fernando Hierro. The most advanced is José Castillo, a young defender from Pachuca who is set to join. The biggest news on Thursday was the presence of Armando González, a young striker who will now get his chance with the first team.
