Chivas forward Alexis Vega underwent surgery this morning as a consequence of the injury he suffered in Friday’s meeting with Atlético San Luis. During the intervention, damage was detected to the meniscus in the player’s right knee - surgeons were able to repair the damage but Vega faces between six to eight weeks out.

The official report from the club stated that: “On Wednesday, Alexis Vega underwent an exploratory arthroscopy on his right knee. The procedure revealed that the striker required meniscus to be cut, for which a partial meniscus menisectomy was performed. The prognosis for his recovery and return to competition is 6-8 weeks”.

Alexis Vega was injured during Friday’s game at the Alfonso Lastras Stadium. The second half had just started, when Vega, who was in possession in midfield but with no rivals nearby, went down before requested medical assistance.

The player left the field in tears - the dramatic images left fans fearing the worst. However, on Monday, during the first assessment, once the inflammation had subsided, damage to the cruciate ligament injury was ruled out. Good news as such injuries usually keep players out between six and eight months.

Today he entered he underwent an exploratory arthroscopy which detected damage to the meniscus. Chivas will be without one of their key players for a considerable time. Vega should be able to to return for the final stretch of the Clausura 2023.
