Alphonso Davies’ situation at Bayern; Real Madrid wait in the wings
The Bundesliga champions will sell the Canadian if he fails to lower his salary demands.
The tug-of-war between Bayern Munich and Alphonso Davies continues. The Bundesliga champions have been trying for months to reach an agreement with the Canadian full-back, who is wanted by Real Madrid. This is what the German newspaper Bild has revealed, explaining that Bayern will not succumb to the player’s high salary demands.
Talks to continue with Davies
Davies’ entourage have made it clear to Bayern that his signature requires a significant pay rise to put him among the highest paid in the squad. The former Vancouver Whitecaps man wants to double his salary to between €13 and €14 million, a figure Bayern are unwilling to meet. The Allianz Arena outfit could end up agreeing to the sale of the full-back in the summer so as not to run the risk of losing him for free in 2025.
Bayern will do what they can to try to ensure that negotiations with him and his agent Nedal Huoseh come to a successful conclusion, and Christoph Freund, the Bavarian club’s sporting director, confirmed that they will resume talks soon. “There has been speculation for a long time. Phonzy has a contract with us until 2025 and I am convinced that he is very happy to play for Bayern,” said the Austrian, adding: “We would very much like him to stay longer at Bayern. We will hold talks.”
