Álvaro Morata suffered a right leg injury on Saturday in Atlético Madrid’s 3-2 defeat against Cádiz and he had to be subbed off after 10 minutes. The 30-year-old is now at risk of missing the 2022 FIFA World Cup as Spain awaits medical examination to check how long is recovery will take.

Atlético Madrid has not informed how long Álvaro Morata will be out but he has been called up to the Spain national team under Luis Enrique’s tenure. So this will be a huge blow for the Spanish manager if the 30-year-old is out for a lengthy period, but Morata has three weeks to recover before the start of the World Cup.

Injury report

The only news that Atlético Madrid confirmed is that Álvaro Morata suffered a contusion and he could not continue playing. Fortunately, the 30-year-old was able to walk off the pitch before being replaced by Cunha. It is expected that Morata will recover shortly and be included in Spain’s World Cup roster.

Luis Enrique will announce his World Cup squad on 11 November and Spain will make their debut against Costa Rica on 23 November in Group E. The 2010 winners will play against Germany on 27 November and five days later they will end the group stage by facing Japan.
