América headache gets worse
Club América claimed victory over Santos Laguna on Saturday - but it was at the expense of a trio of injuries.

Club América’s list of injuries to key players continues to grow - forcing head coach André Jardine to reshuffle his lineup once again.
Henry Martín, Álvaro Fidalgo, and Dagoberto Espinoza were already sidelined heading into América’s 3-0 Apertura 2025 win over Santos Laguna, and were spotted watching from the suite at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes. But the injury bug didn’t stop there - América’s misfortunes only worsened during Saturday’s match.
Three more added to sick bay
Just before kickoff, center back Sebastián Cáceres picked up an injury during warmups and was ruled out of the starting XI. Jardine had to make a last-minute adjustment to fill the void in defense.
Then, 30 minutes into the first half, French winger Allan Saint-Maximin collided with an opposing player and went down with an apparent injury. Though he tried to play through the pain, he eventually signaled for a substitution and was helped off the pitch.

Only four minutes later, José Raúl Zúñiga also suffered an injury and was forced to leave the game. Rodrigo Aguirre came on in his place and made an immediate impact, finding the back of the net. Still, the mounting injuries have left Jardine’s squad in a precarious position as the tournament progresses.
