Teenage América forward heads to Brazil with a loan move nearly complete before the transfer window shuts.

América to lose young gem to Brazilian league
Reports emerged days ago that Diego Reyes Costilla, a teenage forward with Club América, was set to leave Coapa for Flamengo. On Tuesday afternoon, journalist César Luis Merlo confirmed that Reyes is already in Brazil and preparing to finalize a one-year loan move to the Rio de Janeiro powerhouse. The deal is expected to be completed against the clock, with the Brazilian transfer window closing on Tuesday, March 3.
Who is Diego Reyes Costilla?
Reyes joined América’s academy in 2021, entering at the under-14 level. In his first season with Las Águilas, he quickly showcased his eye for goal, scoring four times in just nine games. From that point on, he became a regular fixture in Raúl Herrera’s youth setup. This season, the striker has three goals in four appearances, totaling 300 minutes – an average of roughly one goal every 75 minutes. He has also represented Mexico at the under-16 and under-18 levels.

The young forward has already made his professional debut. André Jardine handed him his first senior minutes in Matchday 1 of the Apertura 2024 tournament, coming off the bench in a loss to Atlético San Luis. Those early milestones have been enough to draw interest from a club of Flamengo’s stature.
A growing bridge between América and Brazil
This winter window has further strengthened ties between América and Brazil’s top flight. Following Diego Valdés’ departure, the club searched for a new No. 10 and turned to Palmeiras, identifying Raphael Veiga as the solution. Likewise, Vinicius Lima arrived from Fluminense to fill the void left by Álvaro Fidalgo. Reyes’ impending exit could deepen that connection even more.

It is clear that André Jardine may play a significant role in nurturing this developing relationship between Brazilian soccer and Las Águilas.
