América’s improvement under head coach André Jardine
América have strengthened defensively with the arrival of the Brazilian coach.
América are going through their best moment this season. They currently boast the best defensive and attacking records and are league leaders having won their three clásicos to date. Much of this is thanks to the work defensive work done on the training ground, as Álvaro Fidalgo has acknowledged.
Under Tano Ortíz, América was an extremely attacking side but struggled at the back. That situation marked the beginning of the André Jardine era, and over time the Brazilian has managed to correct the situation with the defensive pairing of Juárez and Lichnosvky.
Ahead of the trip to the United States, where América will face Chivas in a friendly, Fidalgo spoke about Jardine’s impact. “Since André arrived there have been things that we have improved a lot. I think we have also improved defensively,” he said in quotes picked up by ESPN.
Fidalgo and the coach himself agree that the team is not yet at its best. “There is a lot of room for growth. Without a doubt, we are still building ideas and improving a lot of things,” he said.
