América travel to León in Saturday’s late game, corresponding to matchday 6 of Clausura 2024. The Águilas head into the match after suffering a surprise defeat midweek in Nicaragua to Real Estelí in the CONCACAF Champions League - a timely wake-up call for Jardine’s team. Tonight they will be looking to get back to winning ways by beating the Fiera and in the process, extending their impressive unbeaten run away from home.

The Águilas have looked very strong away from Azteca in the Liga MX - they have gone 23 games without defeat as the visiting team in the Mexican top flight. Their last defeat on the road was back in October 2022 when they lost 2-1 to Toluca in the Apertura 2022 semi-final first leg - when Fernando Ortíz was still at the helm, which gives an idea of how long it has been.

América’s remaining games as a visitor in the tournament

Since then, América have registered 15 wins and eight draws. Their most recent draw was on matchday 3 of the current campaign when they were held 1-1 by Necaxa in Aguascalientes.

So the question is: how long can the unbeaten run last? The Águilas have seven away games left in the current tournament - the first is tonight’s trip to León. After that, on matchday 7 they visit Pachuca, who have been reinvigorated under Guillermo Almada having won four out of the five games they’ve played this season - losing just one, to Pumas, in Week 3.

At the beginning of March América will visit Atlas followed by a trip to Guadalajara to face Chivas in a new episode of the Clásico Nacional. In the first weekend of April, they will play in the TSM against Santos, then bring the regular phase to a close with away games in CU against Pumas and Puebla.
