Manchester City confirm Rodri underwent minor back surgery

Manchester City have confirmed that Rodri underwent a minor back procedure in Madrid on Tuesday, although it is not expected to affect his preparations for the 2026-27 season.

The procedure was designed to relieve pressure on a nerve that had been causing discomfort whenever he sat for long periods. Rodri will not require rehabilitation and has resumed his vacation as normal. The treatment was performed on an outpatient basis, meaning he did not need to stay overnight in the hospital and returned home the same day. The midfielder is reported to be in excellent condition.

City confirmed the news in a brief statement released through the club’s official channels:

“Manchester City can confirm Rodri has undergone successful minor back surgery. The midfielder had been feeling discomfort for some time but has now undergone a procedure to address the issue and will now begin a short period of rehabilitation.”

Rodri is currently on vacation after helping Spain win the World Cup. As AS has previously reported, the midfielder plans to use the summer break to consider his future, with his Manchester City contract set to expire on June 30, 2027.

Following his outstanding performances at the World Cup, several clubs are interested in signing the Spain international.
