Manchester United are working on signing André Onana from Inter Milan and the 27-year-old shot-stopper could be set to replace David de Gea between the sticks at Old Trafford.

De Gea got married this weekend and will have put all the speculation over his future to one side as former United players, including Juan Mata, enjoyed a couple of days together in the sunshine in Menorca, Spain.

Onana to Man United?

United spoke to Onana’s agent a couple of weeks ago in Manchester and have opened talks with Champions League finalists Inter for their player, but have yet to make an official bid to sign the former Cameroon netminder.

Reports in Italy claim Inter are waiting for a bid for Onana as they want to use the finance received to complete the signing of midfielder Davide Frattesi from Sassuolo.

Onana has been part of the Inter side that won the Coppa Italia and he previously worked under United head coach Erik ten Hag at Dutch giants Ajax.

De Gea’s contract expires

De Gea’s contract at United expired on 30 June and the Spanish shot-stopper is now a free agent as United work on signing his potential replacement.

De Gea, who has been at the club since 2011, had been set to sign an extension on reduced terms, but United pulled that deal before reducing their offer on wages again.

The former Atlético Madrid keeper has spent 12 years at the Premier League club but his time in Manchester could be about to come to an end.
