Andreas Christensen has officially signed for FC Barcelona. The Denmark international joins the Catalan on a free transfer from Chelsea and has signed a deal until 2026, with a release clause of €500 million.

Christensen is the second signing announced by the club for next season, after the arrival of Ivorian midfielder Franck Kessié, who also arrives as a free agent from the Serie A side AC Milan.

Born on 10 April 10 1996 in Allerod (Denmark), Christensen came through the Brondby academy, a club where he spent eight years and from where he made the leap to Chelsea.

At the age of 19 he began to feature for the Chelsea first team, especially in the cups, as well as playing in the UEFA Youth League, which Chelsea ended up winning.

Before consolidating himself in the first team, he played on loan in the 2015/16 season at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Back at Stamford Bridge, he started to become a key player. With 160 games under his belt - scoring just two goals - the Dane leaves Chelsea after a decade.

“At 1.88m, Christensen is a powerful centre-back who is excellent in the air. Technically proficient with the ball at his feet also, he is a perfect fit for the Blaugrana back four,” Barcelona wrote.

Christensen was officially presented as a new Barcelona player on Thursday.
