Faced with all the possibilities and names that have been put forwards as potential candidates to take over Mexico’s Under-23 side, the National Teams Commission have Argentinean coach Andrés Lillini in mind for the job.

According to credible sources, Rodrigo Ares de Parga, head of the selection committee, views the option of Lillini as the most favourable above other options such as Mario García, Francisco Ramírez and Roberto Hernández, who currently lead the Expansion League.

Jaime Ordiales, sports director of the National Team Commissions, had proposed Jaime Lozano - a suggestion that was viewed positively by Rodrigo Ares de Parga, but Lozano turned down the opportunity - as did Rafael Márquez, and after that, the attention turned to Lillini.

Information provided to AS México establish that conversations have taken place with Lillini on at least two occasions and the agreement is in place with the Necaxa board of directors, led by Ernesto Tinajero, for the Argentine coach to be a prime option to lead the Under-23 from the month of May.

However, several managers in the Liga MX feel that it would be better for a Mexican coach to be handed the job and the names of the three Expansión coaches: Mario García, Francisco Ramírez and Roberto Hernández, have been put on the table. But at the moment, everything indicates that Lillini will be the chosen one.

We will have to wait for what happens in the coming months. For now, the National Teams Committee is in no rush to choose the coach who will lead the Under-23s and act as support for the senior side coached by Diego Cocca.
