Real Madrid’s Turkish midfielder Arda Güler has returned to training with the first team and could be in line to make his debut with the club.

The youngster has had a rocky start to his time in the Spanish capital after his move from Fenerbahçe, as injuries have hampered his adaptation period at the club. He had been poised to make his debut against Las Palmas back in September, but a relapse saw his return date pushed back to the end of the following month, after the current international break.

Given the player is now back in training, it seems like things are finally going to plan.

What injury did Arda Güler suffer?

The first injury that Güler suffered was a meniscus problem during Real Madrid’s preseason tour of the USA, and the player underwent minor surgery on his knee to remove some debris, a standard procedure that is not considered a serious ordeal. The player recovered as normal and returned to training, with the aforementioned fixture against the island team pencilled in as a possible debut.

The expectation did not die down in Madrid and many fans still eagerly awaited the debut of the youngster who had impressed heavily in Turkey, causing various elite clubs around Europe to test the water about a possible deal for the attacking midfielder.

Güler falls to injury number two

However, disaster struck again as Güler suffered a seemingly unrelated physical issue, this time in his “left rectus femoris muscle”, as Madrid put it in their statement. The injury put the clock back on his recovery by three to four weeks, a huge surprise for everyone given that team boss Carlo Ancelotti had said in a press conference mere minutes before the news broke that Güler was “available. He needs minutes, he needs physical conditioning, he needs to get used to the style, but he’s OK. During this time he’s shown that he has extraordinary talent and that is genetic..”
