Are LAFC set to become the next MLS sporting dynasty?
The reigning MLS champions secured their ticket to the Concacaf Champions League final and remain unbeaten in the league this season.
LAFC have made giant leaps in their six years since the club’s inception. The ‘black and gold’ are current Major League Soccer champions and earlier this week they secured their place in the 2023 Concacaf Champions League final where they will face Liga MX side Club León. Steve Cherundolo’s men also remain unbeaten in the opening stage of the 2023 MLS season.
Many are tipping LAFC to become one of the key soccer dynasties in MLS and even in US sports if they manage to retain this insatiable thirst for success.
MLS historical dynasties:
DC United - Won 3 MLS Cups between 1996 and 1999.
Houston Dynamo - Won 2 consecutive MLS Cups in 2006 and 2007.
LA Galaxy - Won 3 MLS Cups and 2 Supporters’ Shields between 2011 and 2014.
Now, by reaching their second Concacaf Champions League final in 3 years, LAFC has the opportunity to become the first team from the United States to complete a domestic and continental double.
LAFC advanced to the CCL final with a second leg home 3-0 win over Philadelphia Union at the BMO Field in downtown LA after a 1-1 draw on the east coast the previous week.
“They are probably the best team, arguably, in the history of the league”, were the words of Jim Curtin, the Union’s coach, at the end of the game.
