Arsenal could hijack Barça bid for Zubimendi

After having inquired about him on the last day of the transfer window, Arsenal will return for the Real Sociedad midfielder in January.

After having inquired about him on the last day of the transfer window, Arsenal will return for the Real Sociedad midfielder in January.

Martín Zubimendi is the player that Xavi Hernández has always wanted as Sergio Busquets’ replacement, but Barça’s financial problems, together with La Real’s own aspirations, means that today, any transfer is practically impossible.

The Blaugrana coach is not the only one who has been impressed by Zubimendi; in England Mikel Arteta closely follows his old club and would love to bring him to Arsenal. According to Football Transfers, the Gunners made a late attempt to sign the Basque midfielder in the final hours on deadline day - in spite of having spent more than 100 million euros on Declan Rice earlier this summer.

It appears that Arsenal could return to make a bid for Zubimendi in the January window. Timber’s injury, Arteta’s lack of conviction with Jorginho, and the latest setback with Thomas, who faces a while on the sidelines, could push the Londoners to have a second stab at signing one of Real Sociedad’s stars.
