Update:

Arsenal’s injury situation is still a bit of a moving target, but there are finally some mixed signs of progress as the season hits a crucial stretch.

Speaking ahead of their next league fixture, manager Mikel Arteta offered a cautiously optimistic update on several key players who have been sidelined in recent weeks.

The headline news is that Eberechi Eze is back in the frame. After missing time with a calf problem, the midfielder has returned to full training and is expected to be available for selection, giving Arsenal a timely boost in attack.

“He is available... it’s just great to watch”

He is available. He has [been ahead of schedule], my first conversation with him after he felt a niggle, he wanted to be available the next week, we knew that was impossible.

“But the recovery, the will that he’s shown from day one to get back as quick as possible, how he’s pushed the medical staff and himself to be there tomorrow, it’s just great to watch.”

That said, things are less clear when it comes to Bukayo Saka and Jurrien Timber. Both players are still recovering and haven’t fully rejoined the group, leaving their availability uncertain heading into the weekend.

As for Mikel Merino, Arteta provided a positive update, saying: “He’s out of his boot now. He’s doing quite a lot of exercises already. He’s reacted really well to the surgery. He’s got no pain. It’s more for the medical staff to go a bit further on that. But I’m sure there is a chance to make that period shorter. If there is a person who can do it, I’m sure that’s going to be Mikel again.”
