As reported by The Athletic, Arsenal are looking into the possible signing of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus this summer.

Talks have taken place between Arsenal’s technical director Edu and the Brazilian’s representatives, with the 25-year-old said to be open to the move.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has worked with Jesus in the past, during his spell at the Etihad. The Gunners are also monitoring 25-year-old Everton and England striker, Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Jesus joined City from Palmeiras in 2016 but has struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola. With Erling Haaland expected to join from Borussia Dortmund, Jesus would be further restricted. The Athletic reported earlier this week that Haaland has agreed to join Guardiola’s side.

Deal running out at City

The Brazil international’s current deal at City runs out in 2023. Jesus would help to reinforce Arsenal’s front line following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s move to Barcelona in the January transfer window. The future of Arsenal club captain Alexandre Lacazette is currently up in the air.

During the 2021/22 season, Jesus has played 23 times in the Premier League, scoring three goals and registering eight assists. In the Champions League, he has netted three times and provided one assist in six games. City face Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the competition next week.
