Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid forward Marco Asensio.

Asensio’s contract at the Bernabéu expires at the end of the season and Villa continue to monitor his situation.

Villa boss Unai Emery wants to add to his attacking department and sees Asensio as a player who can strengthen the side.

Asensio, 27, is represented by Jorge Mendes, who Villa have a good working relationship with through Emery and co-owner Nassef Sawiris.

Villa targeting Spain

Villa have improved greatly under Emery’s guidance and are expected to shop in Spain over the coming months as reported by The Athletic. Asensio is just one of the players on their radar, however, his preference is to remain at Real Madrid.

There has also been interest from other Premier League sides and several clubs in Italy will keep an eye on how the situation unfolds this summer.

Asensio came on in the 81st minute of Madrid’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League semi-final first leg on Tuesday.

The Spain international has featured for Los Blancos 46 times this season (in all competitions), scoring eight goals and providing six assists.
