Atlas not living in the past

The red and blacks are already in full preparation for the Clausura 2023 Tournament, in which they will have only one objective: not to relive what happened in the previous tournament.

The preseason will be long. Mexican soccer is experiencing a prolonged pause due to the 2022 World Cup. But Atlas is already in full preparation for the Clausura 2023 Tournament, in which it will have only one objective: not to relive what happened in the last competition. After a historic two-time championship, the Foxes collapsed and the squad does not want to repeat a failure of these dimensions.

“This pause that we unfortunately had (after the elimination at the Apertura 2022), I think it came in handy to renew our strength, both physical and mental. Beyond the rest or the time we had on vacation, I know I don’t want to experience what we experienced last tournament. It was not a comfortable situation for the team.

“So, that helps us to enhance this preseason. From day one, start first with the clear objective of not experiencing what we experienced in the last campaign and continue looking for those long-awaited magical nights that we have been able to have before,” explained Camilo Vargas.

CONCACAF Champions League debut

Looking ahead, in addition to the Clausura 2023, Atlas will play the Concacaf Champions League for the first time.

“Without a doubt, we continue making history. I think it will be part of the banner of this new process since Grupo Orlegi arrived: leave an important mark on the institution. And I think that this is a brilliant opportunity that we have to continue writing history in golden letters, of the team and of us,” continued the Colombian goalkeeper.

“As high-performance athletes, we always aim to win, we always aim to conquer the tournaments that we have in front of us, hand in hand with the coach and the board of directors. They are the ones who mark the way for us to seek to conquer these tournaments that we have ahead. We must take advantage of this opportunity we have. I don’t forget past victories, but I am aware that It is a unique opportunity for us,” he added.
