Atlético Madrid interested in Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada

Reports suggest that MLS midfielder Thiago Almada is attracting interest from LaLiga side, Atlético Madrid. The Atlanta United player has been one of the stars of the division, and looks set to leave the league this year, with Spain his most likely destination.

Ferocious tweeter, Fabrizio Romano, posted on his social media account that Almada is “one of the top names on Atlético Madrid list” as the club looks to offload attacker Ángel Correa, who has been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.

Almada, since his arrival in MLS from Vélez Sarsfield in 2022, has made 66 appearances, scoring 20 goals and getting 23 assists. The player established himself as one of the most dangerous players in MLS last season, where across 31 games he got 11 goals and 16 assists.

Atlético ready to go in for Almada

Al-Ittihad, the current club of players such as Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kanté and Fabinho, are reportedly ready to stump up a fee of up to €60 million ($66m) for the 2022 World Cup winner. Romano goes on to say that Almada will be approached by Atlético, who currently sit 5th in LaLiga, if Correa eventually departs for the Middle East.

Earlier reports from the Italian transfer guru said that the Saudi club “will approach Atléti to open talks soon” while adding that is was not set to be an “easy deal... as it will depend on financial package for club and player”. He did confirm that both Marcelo Gallardo, the manager, and sporting director Ramón Planes “both want Correa”.
