Atlético Madrid 1-2 Real Madrid: as it happened
The boys are still dancing
There was a lot of talk pre-match regarding Vinicius' dancing exploits. He wasn't letting anything get in his way tonight as he joined compatriot and fellow dancer Rodrygo for some Samba-style celebrations at the Metropolitano.
Antonio Rudiger: "Madrid is white"
Rudiger tastes victory for the first time in a Madrid derby.
Fede Valverde: "The derby is ours"
I always had the confidence but the only thing that has changed is that I started scoring goals last season and now I'm scoring again. I'm going well. It's always a pleasure to play with Vini.
Atleti lose to cross-city rivals
It wasn't to be for Simeone's side, who have a lot to improve on going forward.
"We've done what we set out to do. We didn't have the ball to create chances in the second half but we were comfortable at 2-0. Benzema is vital for us but Rodrygo scored a great goal tonight and we have an excellent squad."
Real Madrid win the derby
Atlético scored late on through Hermoso but it wasn't enough against a Madrid side who led 2-0 at the break thanks to first-half goals from Rodrygo and Valverde.

Koke, club legend
Tonight is the Atlético skipper's 553rd game for the club.

Vinicius meanwhile, had played, before tonight, an active part in 47% of Madrid’s 15 goals this season, scoring four of them himself.

The Uruguayan is on a brilliant run of form.
He scored a wondergoal last weekend against Mallorca and followed that up with a fine strike versus RB Leipzig in midweek. He's just doubled Madrid's lead.

Atlético Madrid 0-2 Real Madrid
GOAL Valverde!
Valverde scores!!!
Griezmann sends his free-kick high and wide. Pretty wasteful.
Ferland Mendy is next to go into the book for a tackle on Marcos Llorente. It looks like he wins the ball but the referee has decided to even things up!
Rodrygo goal
He's flying in place of Benzema.
Rodrygo started centrally in place of Benzema but is also getting some joy in the half-spaces with his speed. Atlético have their hands full.

Witsel and Kondogbia both head the incoming cross. It's over the bar!
Atlético had their fair share of possession and chances but it counts for nothing as Madrid grab the first goal. A win tonight would see them return to the top of the table. We have a long way to go here though.

Griezmann is also dropping very deep to link the play, with Carrasco playing high and closer to Joao Felix.
Kondogbia, Koke and De Paul are winning the midfield battle.
CARRASCO!
It's a brilliant move by the home side. De Paul picks out Carrasco, who is running through the middle. The Belgian works an angle for himself before hitting the side netting. Impressive start for Atlético.
Atleti have had the better start. Griezmann this time, but his long cross goes out for another goalkick. Los Blancos are camped in their own half.
Atlético work it nicely around the edge of the Madrid box. It eventually goes out for a goalkick and cue all the boos for Thibaut Courtois. They don't like him around these parts...

AS prediction: Atlético 1-1 Real Madrid
Kickoff is just 5 minutes away!
No Karim Benzema
Karim Benzema has been ruled out of the derby. Rodrygo is likely to start in the No. 9 role with Fede Valverde and Vinicius either side of the Brazilian, who scored in last week's league win over Mallorca.
Madrid derby
Atlético will be hoping to stop Madrid's unbeaten run. Barcelona are currently top of the table but 3 points for Ancelotti's side would see them return to the top.
Kickoff is just over 15 minutes away!
Vinícius to keep dancing
Provocative goal celebrations are hardly rare in football – a cupped hand to the ear or a finger placed on the lips being among the most common ways a player invites opposition fans to keep their opinions to themselves – but LaLiga has found itself in the eye of another storm because of Real Madrid forward Vinícius' method of marking a goal: with a dance.
Players pulling out little routines is also nothing new in the game, and Brazilians are famous for their elaborate celebrations. From Bebeto’s “baby swing” at the 1994 World Cup to Ronaldo and Romário and Neymar and Lucas Paquetá, it has become as much a part of Brazilian football as Jogo bonito.

It's a beautiful evening for football.
Real Madrid will wear white and cross-city rivals Atlético Madrid will wear red and white in Sunday’s Madrid derby.
But why do Real Madrid wear white and why do Atlético wear red and white? Two English teams are to blame.
Defensive issues for Atlético
José María Giménez and Stefan Savic – Atlético’s first-choice central defensive partnership - are both out for the Madrid game through injury. New loan signing Sergio Reguilón also misses out as he returns from an operation on a niggling groin issue.

Clash of the coaches

Atlético's average start
Atlético have the honour of playing host to their city rivals and the chance to clamber their way back up the table.
Simeone’s team currently sit in seventh place on 10 points - five points behind Real Madrid.
The hosts will be glad to welcome back goalkeeper Jan Oblak, who missed the team’s last two games with a thigh injury.
Not only is Diego Simeone the highest paid manager in club football worldwide, he also earns almost exactly the same amount as Pep Guardiola (€1.89m) and Jürgen Klopp (€1.49m) combined.
Atlético will consider that money well-spent. In just over a decade at the club, Simeone has delivered eight titles, including two LaLiga championships, two Europa League titles and a Copa del Rey, as well as leading his side to the Champions League final twice.
Madrid derby: the biggest show in town
Well, it's the biggest show in town. Just six games into the new LaLiga season and we have the Madrid derby.
Diego Simeone's men will be hoping to prevent the reigning champions from making it six wins in six tonight.
Real Madrid starting XI

Carlo Ancelotti has named the following XI for tonight's Madrid derby:
