With a couple of months to go before the Clausura 2023 begins, Cruz Azul’s board is already making moves to strengthen the team, as La Máquina look to improve on their quarter-final finish in the Apertura 2022 tournament.

Carrera poised to sign three-year Cruz Azul deal

One of the players the Mexico City club are most interested in is the Argentine Ramiro Carrera, who currently plays for Atlético Tucumán in his native country. According to a report by the journalist Adriano Savalli, the midfielder has reached a verbal agreement to join Cruz Azul.

Per Savalli, Carrera will travel to Mexico on Tuesday next week to finalise the move. Barring any late setbacks in the negotiations, the 29-year-old will sign a contract running until the end of 2025.

Gutiérrez set to be made permanent boss

Meanwhile, interim Cruz Azul head coach Raúl ‘El Potro’ Gutiérrez could be handed the job on a full-time basis, having earned the confidence of club chiefs. The nine-time Mexican champions have two months to sort out a deal with Gutiérrez, with the Clausura 2023 scheduled to begin in early January.
