Barcelona explain why Camp Nou would be perfect to stage the 2030 World Cup final
“We have the best city and the best stadium,” argues city councillor David Escudé. “As things stand today, Madrid is right at the limit in terms of available locations”.
David Escudé, Deputy Delegate for Sports at Barcelona city council, argued in an interview with EFE that “it would be very difficult to understand why Spotify Camp Nou would not be selected to stage the 2030 World Cup final” - not only for it being the stadium with the greatest capacity in Spain, but also for the strength of the candidacy and the attractive qualities and pulling power that the city offers.
Escudé assures that FC Barcelona’s stadium, which is currently in the process of being reconstructed, is the favorite to host the closing party of the World Cup that will be jointly organized by Spain, Morocco and Portugal.

Barcelona is the best city with the best stadium to host 2030 World Cup final
“We have all the requisites to accommodate the final. That’s not coming from us - that is what the commission for evaluating applications have said about us, citing us, at a technical level, as the best of the applications. We have the best city and the best stadium,” Escudé explained.
Barcelona hosted the inaugural match of the 1982 World Cup and Camp Nou was the venue to stage the most games during the tournament (five). Escudé assures that the Condal City has presented “a great candidacy” which is why he hopes that FIFA will decide in favor of Spotify Camp Nou, which is competing with the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid and Casablanca’s Hassan II Stadium to host the final.

The Hassan II stadium in Casablanca, will boast a capacity of 115,000. After being recently renovated, the Bernabéu can house 78,297 spectators while Spotify Camp Nou will be able to seat 99,354 once reconstruction is fully completed next year.
The 2030 World Cup will feature a total of 48 teams (the six hosts: Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay plus another 42 teams).
There will be 104 games played at the tournament - the same as the next edition (2026) which will be held in the US, Canada and Mexico. The number is an increase from the 64 we saw in Qatar 2022.
