Barcelona injury update ahead of Betis in LaLiga: Christensen out against Betis

Barcelona lost yet another first team player ahead of a tough tie away to Real Betis in LaLiga.

Barcelona’s problems continue as they plough through the LaLiga fixtures.

The club sit in 4th place in the table behind Real Madrid, Girona and Athletic Club, and now their upcoming trip to Real Betis (Jan 21 at 12.30 p.m. ET / 9.30 a.m. PT.) - an already hugely challenging fixture on the list - has just become more difficult.

Ahead of the game, manager Xavi Hernández, as well as once again asking his players to “play better”, confirmed that Portuguese full-back João Cancelo will not make it back in time for the trip to Sevilla, but that he would surely be back against Athletic in the Copa del Rey quarter-final, to be held in the Basque Country.

And now, it has been revealed that Barça have suffered a further setback: in this afternoon’s session, Andreas Christensen was not able to participate with the group and stayed in the gym - he is out of contention against Real Betis.

What injury does Andreas Christensen have?

The Danish centre-back had to be replaced at half-time in the Copa del Rey tie in Salamanca against Unionistas and it seems that his discomfort has not gone away. Given this situation, Pau Cubarsí is once again present on the list of those called up by the managed, with Xavi even praising him pre-game: “He played with a great personality and was very good. We have high hopes for him. He is very young but we believe he is ready,” he commented about the youth squad talent.

Also on the squad list are Marc Guiu, starter in the Cup clash against Unionistas, and Héctor Fort, who benefited from Cancelo’s absence. The complete list is as follows...
