Barcelona makes LaLiga history with perfect 19-0 home season: Which other teams have done it?

Hansi Flick’s champions dominated at three different stadiums and joined one of soccer’s most exclusive historical clubs.

RODOLFO MOLINA

No Barcelona fan will forget that the club mathematically sealed the LaLiga title with a win over Real Madrid, something that had never happened before in league history.

A later loss to Alavés ended any hopes of reaching the symbolic 100-point mark, the milestone achieved only by Tito Vilanova’s legendary Barça side. But Hansi Flick’s team still had one more objective left before closing out the season: winning every single home game.

That record, unlike the 100-point dream, did not slip away.

With a 3-1 victory over Real Betis, Barcelona officially completed one of the most dominant home campaigns Spanish soccer has ever seen. Flick’s side finished the season with a flawless 19 wins from 19 home matches, turning Barcelona into the most intimidating road trip in LaLiga.

A home record no team had ever achieved

This is not the first time Barça has won every home game in a league season. The club previously managed the feat under Helenio Herrera in 1958-59 and 1959-60.

But those seasons came in a 16-team league with only 15 home games.

What Flick’s Barcelona accomplished is unprecedented in the modern era. In fact, Barça became the first team in LaLiga history to win 19 home matches in a single season. Until now, the record belonged to Real Madrid’s 1985-86 team, which went 17-for-17 at home.

The achievement becomes even more remarkable considering Barcelona played home games in three different stadiums throughout the season.

Two victories came at the Johan Cruyff Stadium, a 6-0 rout of Valencia and a 3-0 win over Getafe. Four more were played at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, where Girona, Real Sociedad and Elche were all beaten.

Barcelona finally returned to Spotify Camp Nou on Nov. 22 against Athletic Club, winning 4-0. The remaining home victories came against Alavés (3-1), Osasuna (2-0), Atlético Madrid (3-1), Oviedo (3-0), Mallorca (3-0), Levante (3-0), Villarreal (4-1), Sevilla (5-2), Rayo Vallecano (1-0), Espanyol (4-1), Celta Vigo (1-0), Real Madrid (2-0) and Betis (3-1).

Flick’s Barça dominated at both ends

The numbers underline just how overwhelming Barcelona was at home this season.

No visiting team managed to take even a single point. Flick’s squad not only won every game, it controlled most of them from start to finish.

Barcelona scored 54 goals at home, nearly three per game, while conceding only nine all season.

That balance between relentless attack and defensive stability became one of the defining characteristics of Flick’s first year in charge.

No other European giant came close

None of Europe’s other major clubs matched Barcelona’s home dominance this season.

Bayern Munich played 17 Bundesliga matches at Allianz Arena, posting 14 wins, two draws and one loss while scoring 68 goals and allowing 19.

Inter Milan recorded 14 wins, three draws and two losses in 19 Serie A home games, with a plus-34 goal differential.

Paris Saint-Germain, led by former Barça coach Luis Enrique, won 13 of 17 home matches at Parc des Princes, drawing two and losing two.

Arsenal, meanwhile, have 14 wins, two draws and two defeats in 18 Premier League home games, with one still to play.

None came remotely close to Barça’s perfect record.

One of soccer’s rarest accomplishments

Historically, very few teams across Europe have managed to win every home league game in a season.

Saint-Étienne did it in France during the 1974-75 campaign. Sunderland achieved it in England back in 1891-92, while Juventus matched the feat in Serie A during the 2013-14 season.

No club in Bundesliga history has ever done it.

Barcelona, however, has now achieved the milestone five different times, further reinforcing the club’s reputation for producing some of the most dominant home teams the sport has ever seen.
