Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong: “We are not doing well”
The midfielder believes that Barcelona can still turn the situation around.
Barcelona want to start the new year on the right foot and turn their season around. The Blaugrana are currently seven points behind leaders Real Madrid and Frenkie de Jong, in an interview with NOS, has discussed their campaign to date. “We’re not doing well in LaLiga, that’s the reality but we still have half the season left. You never know. We finished top of our group in the Champions League. There’s still a lot to play for.”
The Dutch player also spoke about his hunger for titles. “As a player you want to win big titles. I haven’t yet won the trophies I want to win and I’m not yet the player I want to be. There is still room for improvement and I have time to be able to do it, but I would like it to happen as quickly as possible,” he added, referring in particular to winning the Champions League, a trophy that still eludes him.
After a few seasons in which Barça were prepared to sell De Jong to balance the books, the midfielder has always been adamant about staying at the Catalan club. “I’m at the club where I always wanted to be, where I dreamed of being,” he said.
Barcelona’s injury issues
De Jong reviewed the season and in particular the large number of injuries that Barça have to deal with, such as Gavi and Pedri. “We miss some players who are injured, such as Gavi and Pedri. All the clubs are having a lot of injuries and I hope that this year we can play all the available players and that everyone stays fit. Then things will surely get better,” he concluded.
