Barcelona: In Viktoria they trust

Barcelona go into the match after comfortably defeating Athletic Club 4-0 and grabbing 28 out of 33 possible points in LaLiga, a very different scenario than that of the Champions League till now.

Before this game, Inter host Viktoria Plzen earlier in the evening, and a win for the Italian side would see them qualify, ending Barcelona’s hopes of reaching the next round. In that case, Barça would play in the Europa League for the second season in a row, which would mean a terrific slap to Barcelona’s finances, as they increased their spending cap by nearly 800 million following the ‘economic levers’ the club activated to improve the squad.

The Blaugranes would need Viktoria Plzen to avoid defeat vs Inter in Italy and then to beat Bayern, but they have picked up just one point from their last three games in the competition.

Bayern, too strong in Europe

Julian Nagelsmann’s men, who already defeated Inter and Barcelona 2-0 in their first two group fixtures, have now won their last four games in all competitions.

The Bavarians, who are sitting second in the Bundesliga standings, have not lost to Barcelona since the semi-finals of the 2014-15 Champions League, going down 3-0 at Camp Nou.

Barcelona will again be missing Ronald Araújo, Andreas Christensen, and Memphis Depay, while Sergi Roberto won’t be available after dislocating his shoulder last weekend. Bayern won’t have Manuel Neuer, Lucas Hernandez, Leroy Sane and Bouna Sarr, all injured.
