Barcelona waits as Ferran Torres keeps future wide open during U.S. media tour

The uncertainty around Ferran Torres’ future at FC Barcelona isn’t going anywhere. The forward is still on his media tour across the United States — where he’s become a breakout star thanks to his decisive World Cup‑winning goal against Argentina — and he keeps repeating the same message: he doesn’t know where he’ll play next season, and every option remains on the table.

Back in Barcelona’s offices, it’s a tense calm. Club leadership is waiting for Torres to return and rejoin training next week, where he’s expected to sit down with Deco and Hansi Flick. The other possibility: a phone call from Paris Saint‑Germain, informing Barça of a formal offer for the Valencia‑born striker.

So far, nothing. No calls, no proposals — despite persistent rumors about PSG’s interest under president Nasser Al‑Khelaifi. And Paris might not be alone. Atlético Madrid could also enter the picture, especially if talks ever open regarding Julián Álvarez, a scenario that has been floated but not confirmed.

Barça’s salary‑cap situation

Barcelona’s stance, however, hasn’t changed. The club insists its plan for Ferran has been set for months: they want to renew his contract and have no intention of selling him. But there are two key caveats.

First, the renewal won’t be offered until September, once the transfer window closes and Barça has a clear picture of its salary‑cap situation. According to the club, this timeline was always the plan and has nothing to do with the $8 million bonus owed to Manchester City once Ferran signs an extension.

Second, Ferran shouldn’t expect a major pay bump. The sporting department believes he’s already positioned correctly within the squad’s salary structure. He’ll receive an improvement — but not a dramatic leap.
