Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel was handed a huge boost ahead of the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid with the news that several first-team regulars had overcome various fitness issues and were in contention to start at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

Bayern injury update: Musiala, Sané, De Ligt, Coman...

Jamal Musiala (knee tendon issue), Serge Gnabry (hamstring strain), Leroy Sané (pubis) and Konrad Laimer (ankle) all trained as normal for the first 15 minutes of Monday’s session, which the media were able to sit in on.

However, there was no sign of Matthijs de Ligt, who suffered a knee injury during 2-1 league win against Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend. The Dutch defender was unlikely to be involved, and that’s how it turned out, which means former Napoli centre-back Kim Minjae starts alongside Eric Dier at the back. Dayot Upamecano, who has been struggling with an ankle issue, misses out.

More on Bayern Munich vs Real Madrid

Winger Kingsley Coman, who scored the winner in the 2020 Champions League final against PSG, was already ruled out, as were defenders Bouna Sarr, Sacha Boey and Tarek Buchmann.

Confirmed Bayern Munich XI to play Real Madrid

Neuer; Kimmich, Min-jae, Dier, Mazraoui; Laimer, Goretzka; Sané, Musiala, Müller; Kane.

Substitutes: Peretz, Ulreich, Davies, Upamecano, Gnabry, Müller, Pavlovic, Guerreiro, Zaragoza, Choupo-Moting, Tel.

Striker Harry Kane, who has scored 42 goals in all competitions so far this season, is locked in a battle with PSG’s Kylian Mbappé to finish as the Champions League top scorer. As it stands, the England captain has netted seven times in 2023/24, one fewer than his French counterpart.
