Update:
Bayern Munich out of race to sign Erling Haaland

Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich as well as other top European clubs. Manchester City and Real Madrid are the favourites to land the Norwegiantriker this summer.

The Bundesliga side have yet to open talks with Robert Lewandowski about extending his contract, which expires in the summer of 2023. Lewandowski, who has been recently linked with a move to FC Barcelona, is reportedly frustrated with Bayern’s stance.

Bayern CEO, Oliver Kahn, admitted that the Borussia Dortmund striker’s transfer is beyond Bayern’s financial means.

“He’s an excellent striker [Haaland] and a very interesting player for the future, but he is far beyond our means,” Kahn told Sport1′s Doppelpass programme. “These are financial dimensions that are beyond our imagination,” he added.

Kahn: “We want to keep Lewandowski”

Speaking about Lewandowski, Kahn said: “We want him to stay with Bayern for as long as possible. However, Bayern would also have gone through “two very difficult years” and “suffered” as a result of the pandemic. There are also economic aspects at stake.”

Lewandowski will be about to turn 35 when his contract expires at Bayern in the summer of 2023. “We are thinking about it, also because of his age. That’s why everything takes a bit longer,” Kahn concluded.
