Harry Kane surely couldn’t have dreamt of making a better start to life as a Bayern Munich player, with his goalscoring numbers in the first few months of the season reminiscent of how Erling Haaland kicked off his Manchester City career last year. Such has been the England captain’s form in front of goal, his two goals against Heidenheim on Saturday mean he has already passed the tally posted by the top goalscorers in the 2022-23 Bundesliga…after just 11 games!

Lewandowski’s goals tough to replace...for one year

Although Bayern ultimately ended up winning an 11th successive title last season, they only just pipped Borussia Dortmund on the final day and were hampered by not having a top-class centre-forward following Robert Lewandowski’s departure to Barcelona.

The goalscoring charts across the season reflect that, with Niclas Füllkrug of Werder Bremen and RB Leipzig’s Christopher Nkunku sharing the Golden Boot with 16 goals apiece. Bayern’s top league scorer was Serge Gnabry on 14, with Jamal Musiala following on 12. In the three previous campaigns, Lewandowski had scored more than 30 Bundesliga goals for the Bavarians, including 41 in just 29 games in 2020-21.

What is Kane’s Bundesliga record in 2023-24?

Incredibly, Kane will shatter that record if he keeps scoring at his current rate. The 30-year-old went into the weekend clash with Heidenheim having found the net 15 times in 10 league appearances, with his first-half double making him the first player to score 16 - and then 17 - times in his first 11 Bundesliga matches, as pointed out by analytics company Opta.

That also means he has already surpassed Füllkrug and Nkunku, who needed 28 and 25 appearances respectively to hit 16 goals. Kane has done it in only 11. Despite his goalscoring heroics, the former Spurs attacker has scored just three goals more than Stuttgart’s Serhou Guirassy, who netted 14 times in his first eight matches of the season before suffering a hamstring injury.
