The future of Joshua Kimmich is still up in the air and FC Barcelona continue to keep a close eye on the Bayern player.

German newspaper Kicker has revealed that the German international remains on the list of possible reinforcements of the Catalan side.

Barcelona already tried to sign him last year, but the likelihood of signing him in the summer is considerably higher due to the player’s contractual situation.

Kimmich open to Madrid move

As Sky Germany recently revealed, Kimmich has not ruled out a change of scenery after almost a decade in the famous red kit of Bayern Munich and would not be averse to joining either Real Madrid or Barcelona. The media outlet reports that there are a total of 5 clubs that appeal to the midfielder: Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester are said to be the other three, with some clubs even already having opened talks.

The German international’s contract expires in 2025, so both the club and the player intend to sit down at the negotiating table before the European Championship to clarify his future. If a renewal agreement is not reached, Bayern will put him on the ‘for sale’ list and begin to look for offers in order to avoid losing him for free next year.

How much would Barcelona have to pay for Kimmich?

However, in Germany there is huge doubt that Barcelona can afford a deal that, according to Kicker, would amount to an amount between €70 and €80 million ($76m-$87m) to peel him away from the Bundesliga side to LaLiga.

Of course, Bayern would indeed contemplate a swap deal involving Ronald Araújo, a central defender that has been attracting interest from not just the Germans for a while. Regardless of this, Kimmich’s future seems to be increasingly far from the Allianz Arena, where he returned to the full-back slot after the emergence of Aleksandar Pavlovic.
