Benfica reportedly monitoring Feyenoord striker Santiago Giménez
Portuguese media outlet ‘Récord’ have gone with the Mexican on their front page as he is linked with yet another European club.
Santiago Giménez is shining in the Eredivisie with Feyenoord and has begun to catch the interest of various clubs around Europe. The Mexican forward needed no time at all to adapt to his new surroundings and make a difference in European football, scoring 15 goals in all competitions this season already. His numbers put him right amongst the top 10 under-23 forwards in Europe’s top leagues and as a result, Benfica are the latest team to call themselves Santi’s secret admirers.
According to information from Récord in Portugal, Giménez is on the list of possible replacements should Gonçalo Ramos depart the Portuguese club in the summer once the season ends. The 21-year-old has also made waves in Europe this season and as such the Portuguese side expect an offer to arrive for the player, who scored 3 goals at the World Cup 2022 in Qatar and was even perferred ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in Portugal’s most crucial games of the tournament.
Benfica are not alone in Europe
The image of Santiago Giménez took up the entire front page of Récord upon its release on 21 March 2023 and the outlet reports that the board and manager, Roger Schmidt, admire the player. Benfica, however, are not the only team that have been linked with Giménez over the past weeks and months: Sevilla in LaLiga Santander have also been rumoured to be interested in signing the player. And what is for certain is that if Giménez keeps up his goal-scoring tallies then the list of secret admirers will surely grow longer and longer.
The value of Santiago Giménez is on the up
The price of the player is also something that, like his list of admirers, is set to increase. Transfermarkt valued the player at around €6 million but due to his goal-scoring exploits and promising form, that number has now increased to €9 million.
