Benzema and Militão injured during LaLiga game against Valencia
Both players came off early with injuries as Madrid defeated Los Che 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Real Madrid beat a deflated Valencia 2-0 at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu on Thursday 2 February, but alarm bells were raised after Karim Benzema and Éder Militão went off early after suffering injuries during the game.
Goals from Asensio and Vinicius (on his 200th appearance) sealed the deal for Los Blancos, who are now just 5 points off league leaders Barcelona, who had extended the gap to 8 points following a 1-2 victory over Real Betis at the Estadio Benito Villamarín the day before.
The injuries add to Ancelotti’s already long list of absentees and the latest additions to the physio room come just 6 days before the Spanish side play in the Club World Cup.
More detail:
No mistake about Militão
Benzema left the field limping after an hour and Militão was substituted for Carvajal after a challenge from Lino around the half-hour mark. The Brazilian was seen visibly complaining about his thigh muscle and the club doctor, who assessed the centre-back on the pitch, immediately called to the bench for the change.
Carlo Ancelotti said after the game that the player will not be available for Sunday’s game against Mallorca.
Benzema, diagnosis unknown
As for Benzema, a full diagnosis will have to be carried out to see what exactly the problem is, but the forward could be seen touching his knee at around 60 minutes, and was brought off for Rodrygo, after requesting the change from the bench. This is his third injury this season.
