Spain’s 7-0 victory against Costa Rica has broken the National Team’s scoring record in its World Cup history. To put it in a situation, in the World Cup in South Africa, the National Team scored eight goals in the seven games that the tournament lasted. The previous mark was in the 1998 World Cup against Bulgaria. That match was the last for Spain in the World Cup in France; despite the 6-1 victory, the National Team could not get past the groups. The gunners that night were: Fernando Morientes twice, Fernando Hierro, Kiko, and Georgi Bachev; at his door, the figure was rounded off by the current coach, Luis Enrique.

The match against Bulgaria surpassed the previous mark of 5-1 against Denmark in the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. Both games are far from the seven goals to nil that Luis Enrique’s team has achieved in Qatar today. The exhibition against Costa Rica also shatters the record for the best debut in a World Cup event that Luis Aragonés’ team has held since 2006 in their match against Ukraine.
