Update:

Jadon Sancho´s return to Borussia Dortmund was confirmed on Thursday after the Englishman completed his loan move.

The Englishman starred for Dortmund in the Bundesliga before agreeing a €85 million transfer to Manchester United in 2021. Sancho has failed to show his best form at Old Trafford and fell out with head coach Erik ten Hag earlier this season.

Forced to train away from the first team squad since September, Sancho has now secured a temporary move away from Manchester to help him rebuild his career. He returns to the club with whom he first established himself as a global star and Dortmund celebrated the move with a light-hearted social media post.

The German club referenced NBA star Michael Jordan´s infamous statement when he announced his own return to the Chicago Bulls. Jordan issued a statement reading simply “I´m back.” to confirm the news.

How much are Borussia Dortmund paying Jadon Sancho?

The Englishman arrived at Old Trafford as one of the most coveted young forwards in the world and was expected to be a cornerstone of a new-look United team. But in two and a half years he has contributed just nine goals in 58 Premier League appearances for the club and finds himself out of first team contention.

After such a large outlay for the player, still only 23 years old, United must get Sancho back to his best, either to integrate him back into the squad or to sell him on. They have reportedly agreed to continue paying a significant of his salary to facilitate the loan move back to Dortmund.

Sancho´s current deal is though to be worth around £300,000 ($381,000) per week and United are expected to cover around a third of it. Dortmund will pay a modest loan fee and partial coverage of Sancho´s salary, a package that will cost the club around €4 million ($4.38m).

If Sancho can recapture the form of his previous stint in Dortmund and return to Old Trafford refreshed next season, it could prove to be a good deal for all parties.
