Ball into the area for Raphinha and he took it down off the chest hoping that one of his teammates would run on to the end of it but it was Bono clearing the lines.
Brazil seem like they have got through the first wave off energy from Morocco. They look a little more comfortable and are enjoying a bit more of the ball.
Vini with his first intervention in the game and he puts in a great ball to Thiago who couldn't get a head to it even though he had a great chance to nod that on goal.
The pressure from Morocco has been insatiable. Brazil have had trouble even getting the ball past the halfway.
Morocco have come out the much better side so far. They possess, they attack when they can and they have Brazil on the back foot.

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM NEW JERSEY!!!
The match of the group stages kicks off from the stage of the World Cup final. Will one of these teams be there on July 19th?
For Morocco, it's Bono in goal, Hakimi, Diop, Riad, and Mazouri in the back with Bouaddi and El Ayanoui in the middle. Up top we have Brahim, Ounahi and El Khannous with Salbari at the point of attack.

Both teams are in the tunnel. There is no opening ceremony. There are no pregame concerts. Today is strictly soccer. In a matter of minutes the best match of the group stages is set to kick off.
The star studded generation
These days are gone. Names like Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Kaka have gone. Now it's time for Raphinha, Vinicius and Casemiro to make their mark and bring Brazil a sixth World Cup back home.

World Cup favorites
The favorites and the FIFA Rankings paint two slightly different stories. When you look at the odds makers favorites you see a slight difference in order of the top teams. It’s Spain in the top spot as the slight favorites and then France, with Brazil right outside the top five behind Argentina. Morocco comes in considerably farther down the list but are still in the top 10 in most sports books. Will it be one of these teams or will we have our first real shock of the tournament in this historic World Cup hosted in three different countries.

FIFA Rankings
Taking a look at the FIFA World Rankings coming into to the first games of the tournament, we see that Argentina is still holding on to the top spot four years after winning the Worlds Cup. Right behind them sit Euro winners Spain, and runners up of the World Cup in Qatar, France. Brazil are ranked sixth on the list after England and Portugal and right behind them are Morocco. This is a heavyweight bout between two of the top teams in the tournament. A match fit for a quarter, semi or even final. Lucky us we get it three days into the tournament.
Morocco World Cup history
This is just the seventh World Cup Finals that Morocco have played in their history. Their first trip to the World Cup came in 1970 in Mexico, their next came in 1986, also in Mexico. The third one came in 1994, in the US. Strange coincidence that those are two of the three hosts of this summer's tournament. Their best finish in the World Cup before Qatar was 11th in 86 when they went to the Round of 16. Last World Cup they shocked the world getting to the semis before losing to France 2-0. It will be hard to top their last World Cup, but this team has the squad and the experience to make noise in this World Cup.

Group C schedule and preview
Group C is admittedly a bit top heavy. Brazil and Morocco are clear cut favorites to move on from this group. The question is, will Haiti (83rd in FIFA Rankings) or Scotland (40th in FIFA Rankings) have a chance to grab one of those eight third place spots that is up for grabs heading into the Round of 32. The Haiti Scotland game later tonight could be vital in that pursuit of a third place qualification for the next round. Here is the group C schedule.

Brazil's World Cup history
No country has more World Cup stars on their shirt than O Selecao. They won three in four editions with Pele as the driving force behind the success as Brazil emerged as the soccer superpower in the world of international tournaments. Wins in 1958, 1962 and 1970 established them as the kings of the Cup, but they didn’t win again until 1994 when they won their fourth on US soil. They went to the final in 1998 but lost to France before Brazil’s last World Cup title which came in 2002 from Japan and South Korea. They have been in every World Cup, and made it to the quarters or farther in the last seven editions dating back to the 1994 World Cup. They have been KOed out of the quarters in the last two editions, but this time in a country in which they have already won the Cup they will be looking for their record 6th star.
Star watch: Morocco
We're going all Real Madrid players in our star watch, but Brahim Diaz showed why he deserves to be in this section of our preview. With Real Madrid he is player that comes off the bench looking to change the dynamic of the match. With Morocco he is the star. He had a tumultuous period following his missed penalty in the AfCon final, but looks to have shaken that off and is hoping to be the one that leads his team on another historic run through the knockout stages. On a pitch full of stars, Brahim is capable of being the biggest star of them all. Today he will have a chance to show that he should be in the conversation with Vinicius and Raphinha and Mbappe with the eyes of the world watching.
Star watch: Brazil
We could go on for hours and hours about players on Brazil's star watch, but in this portion of the preview we have to narrow it down to just one. I have to go with my guy Vinicius. It was a a tough club season for him at Real Madrid, but even though the club didn’t have the best of seasons, Vinicius had a fantastic final half of the campaign. Reunited with the coach who brought the best out of him, he is itching to make a his name a household name around the world in the biggest tournament in the sport. He already has a La Liga title, two Champions League titles, and a World Cup would put him in elite company.
Morocco squad
The man behind the undefeated streak is Morocco coach Mohamed Ouhabi. Well actually not really. Ouhabi took over in March of 2026 after Walid Regragui resigned following one of the most successful stints in the countries history which included a fourth placed World Cup finish and a AfCon title. Now Ouhabi, the former U-20 coach, is in charge and this is the squad he has selected.

Brazil squad
Carlo Ancelotti was brought to the Brazil national team for one reason and one reason only. He is expected to bring this team back to the summing of international soccer, and you would think with his past success at the club level would translate to the international level, but things are a bit different here. He gets to choose his squad at the international level and here is his squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Goalkeepers: Alisson, Ederson, Weverton
Defenders: Alex Sandro, Bremer, Danilo, Douglas Santos, Gabriel Magalhães, Ibañez, Leo Pereira, Marquinhos, Wesley
Midfielders: Bruno Guimarães, Casemiro, Danilo, Fabinho, Lucas Paqueta

Brazil XI
We have our first XI of Brazil under Ancelloti in the World Cup. This team is packed with attacking potential. In the midfield they have Champions League winners and in the back they have a solid foundations. They should go far in this tournament, but we will see just how ready they are for this tournament tongiht.
Morocco's invincibility put to the test
There are few teams playing better than Morocco coming into this tournament. In fact, there is no team that comes into the World Cup with a longer undefeated streak. They haven’t lost in 29 matches and have only twice in their last 45 matches. Their last loss came against Kenya when they lost 1-0 in August of 2025 in the African Nations Cup. It’s hard to bet against a team that has played that well for that long, but they are going up against big, bad Brazil.
Last match: Morocco
Morocco took on Norway in the final friendly before the tournament started and it was an entertaining 1-1 draw. Brahim Diaz scored the opener in what looked like it was going to be a high scoring affair out of the gate. Morocco came out on the front foot and looked like the more eager team, but Norway's defense held strong and eventually they were able to equalize with a 75th minute goal from Marin Odegaard. The draw continues Morocco’s incredible run of matches without a loss and they will be looking to keep it going this evening.
Last match: Brazil
The Canarihno ended their World Cup tune up tour with a game against Egypt and it was their young starlet who settled the score in the second half. Bruno Guimaraes put the Brazilian up 1-0 in the 7th minute but Egypt responded with an equalizer four minutes later. The rest of the first half would be controlled by Brazil but the first 45 ended at 1-1. Carlo Ancelotti made a mass substitution at the start of the second half and it was Endrick who made the difference with a 52nd minute goal off a pass from Raphinha.
