Brazil 1 vs 1 Morocco summary: updates, stats, goals and highlights | 2026 World Cup Group C

It was an electric first 45 minutes between Brazil and Morocco but the second half failed to live up to the expectation as the Group C favorites drew 1-1.

Update:

Brazil looked like they were struggling to get anything going in the first half. It took a bit of magic from Vinicius to equalize the match, but outside of that there was nothing much that Brazil really did in terms of creating chances. The first half was great, but to be honest there was nothing worth mentioning in the second half.

Both of these teams looked content with the draw towards the end of the game. They will take the point and look to win their matches against Scotland and Haiti. They will be favorites to move on out of the group stage, but how far will these two teams go?

Morocco and Brazil opened up their World Cup campaign with one of the matches of the group stages. The first half was fabulous. It was open, it was free flowing and entertaining. Morocco came out looking the better team and had Brazil on the back foot from the very start.

It was the AfCon champions that went up first thanks to a great ball through the middle of the park from Brahim to Ismael Saibari who needed one touch to beat Alisson for the first goal of the game.

IT'S ALL OVER HERE FROM NEW JERSEY!!!

A draw was fair after an up and down first half, but a disappointing second half led to a draw in one of the most anticipated matches of the group stages.

90+8'

A loose ball in the middle of the park was laced on goal from Aynaoui and Alisson needed to push it wide of goal off the short hop.

90+7'

Terrible free kick that was way too close to Alisson.

90+6'

Fabinho with a high stud on Mourabet and that gives Morocco a free kick from the center of the park.

90+5'

Easily taken on the back post by Brazil and the corner was dealt with. Five minutes to go in stoppage time.

90+4'

Gabriel with the last touch over the end line and Morocco will have a corner kick for maybe their last chance of the game.

90+3'

Raphinha missed the header off the corner but Danilo had a chance to have a go at goal that was stopped by Bono.

09+2'

Corner from Cunha was a little too close to Bono but Brazil get another corner.

90+2'

Vini on the end line and he earns a corner in stoppage time.l

90+1'

Not sure exactly where those 10 minutes came from, but we will take it.

90'

TEN MINUTES OFF EXTRA TIME

89'

Rahimi in for the goal scorer Saibari for the final few minutes.

88'

Amaimouni sends a ball into the box but that is sent away by Garbriel.

87'

There might be one or two more chances in this game. Let's see who has it and who makes the most of those chances.

85'

Zidane was just spotted in the stands here from New Jersey.

83'

Issa with a hospital ball back to Bono and Raphinha almost got there first. There was a little coming together between Bono and Raphinha and Bono stays down after the collision.

81'

No. After a quick conversation with his assistant it was ruled a goal kick. Really nothing has happened in this second half.

82'

Cunha trying to make something out of nothing and he earns himself a corner kick.

79'

Guimares out for Danilo Santos.

78'

Vini was played in to the end line behind the defenders and he sent it back to Raphinha who took the shot and put it on target with one touch towards goal. Bono made the save but might have twisted his ankle on the save.

76'

Talbi with a meg through a defenders leg and got to the end line to put in a cross but that was sent away by Brazil's defense. It's going to take a moment of magic or a mistake to break this match open.

75'

A ball sent in from Mazraoui was sent away at the front post and there is a little bit of angst starting to enter the New Jersey Stadium. Not much has happened and the fans want a bit more from both sides.

73'

The ball seems to be stuck in the midfield. Neither of the teams are really building up much in the attacking third on either side of the pitch.

71'

Saibari was offside but he was played in and tried to have a go at goal but it was blocked off. That's really all Morocco have been able to do in this second half.

70'

WE ARE BACK IN PLAY FROM NEW JERSEY.

67'

WE ARE AT THE HYDRATION BREAK FROM NEW JERSEY!

66'

Guimares runs on to a ball on the right end line and sent it in for Raphinha who was just late in getting to the cross.

66'

Raphinha with a ball into the box and it fell to Danilo who couldn't get into position to have a shot on goal.

64'

El Khannouss and Ounahi out for Talbi and El Mourabet.

63'

Guimares taken down in the middle of the park and a free kick to come from a difficult angle ni the center of the pitch.

61'

Cuhna and Henrique in for Paqueta and Thiago.

60'

It feels like one mistake is going to decide this game. Nothing is really separating these teams. But the first one to dip in intensity is going to pay for it.

58'

Brahim trying to attack the right side, and the Brazil defense was all over him shutting down any chance at a cross or a pass back. Brazil look locked in on the defensive end. Now can they make anything happen on the attack?

56'

It's not as open as it was in the first 45. That's to be expected after a fast paced, free flowing first half.

55'

The back four from Brazil are looking a lot more structured. Morocco is having trouble finding space in the attacking third.

53'

Brazil seem to have settled out of the break and look the more likely to score the next goal.

52'

Thiago got in behind the defense for a half chance and tried one on goal but the angle was a bit too acute to really test Bono.

51'

Vini driving at defenders and sent the ball into the area but no one was there to get to the end of that cross.

48'

Hakimi takes a heavy challenge to the ankle. He needed a few seconds but got back to his feet.

47'

Ball towards the front post and that went behind Paqueta who was looking to flick it on to the back post.

46'

Ibanez and Casemiro have been subbed for Danilo and Fabinho.

46'

Corner kick for Brazil right out of the gate.

46'

WE ARE BACK IN FOR THE SECOND HALF OF ACTION FROM NEW JERSEY.

When Brazil needed a little bit of ingenuity they went to their magic man. Vinicius took matters into his own hands and scored an absolute stunner, dribbling past defenders and tucking it into the side netting.

Morocco came out strong and imposed themselves on the five time World Cup Champions. They played fearless, they played like a team that hasn't lost in 29 games. They got the opening goal on a pass from Brahim to Saibari and the No. 9 tucked it home with a chip over Alisson on the first touch.

WE ARE AT THE HALFTIME BREAK FROM NEW JERSEY!!!

It was as advertised in the first 45 minutes. Let's hope we see the same in the second half.

45+4'

Hakimi gets the best of Vini again, but this time it looked like a foul that wasn't called.

45+2'

Paqueta with a scissor kick on target after a ball sent in from Douglas Santos! Incredible skill from Paqueta and it needed a save from Bono.

45'

FOUR MINUTES OF STOPPAGE TIME FROM NJ.

45'

Free kick in an awkward position just outside the center circle.

44'

Raphinha chopped down in the middle of the park.

43'

Brahim taken down in the middle of the pitch and Ibanez is shown the second yellow card of the night.

41'

Hakimi and Vini are having quite the battle on the left side of Brazil's attacking third. Hakimi got the best of him in the last charge of the pitch.

40'

This game has been blown wide open since the Brazil scored the equalizer. Something is bound to happen in the next five minutes.

37'

Casemiro shown the first yellow of the day after taking down El Aynaouss who looked like he was about the make a break towards goal from the midfield.

A little bit of Vini magic to equalize the match here from East Rutherford. Morocco have been the better side but look at the scoreboard and these two teams are level.

35'

Hakimi sends the ball into the mid, and Casemiro nods it out. Brahim put it back in off the rebound and Alisson got two fists to it for the clearance.

33'

Hakimi taken down on the right side and a free kick is coming for Morocco.

32'

GOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL!!!!!

Just when I say that, Vini takes control and dribbles into the box, skipping around a defender and placed it right into the side netting on the far post to level the score!!

It's 1-1 just over a half hour into this game.

31'

Brazil look lost right now.

30'

Hakimi from the top of the area and he tries to turn on the bouncing ball but sent it high and wide of the target.

29'

Ball to the front post was nodded on El Aynaouss on the front post but Brazil with the danger off the free kick.

28'

Brahim tripped up by Douglas Santos and a free kick from the left side is coming.

27'

It's Hakimi who pushes forward and lets a shot loose from the right side. He blows it wide of target but it's Morocco on the front foot after the break.

26'

WE ARE BACK IN PLAY AFTER THE HYDRATION BREAK.

How do Brazil respond after going a goal down.

What a ball it was from Brahim through the middle and Siabari knew what to do with it from there.

23'

We are at the hydration break and Morocco go into it flying high after the goal from Saibari.

21'

GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!!!

A fantastic ball through the middle for Saibari through the middle of the defense and on one touch he chips it over Alisson and it bounces into the back of the net!

Morocco lead 1-0 and it's hard to say they don't deserve it.

19'

Ball sent into the area Bruno Guimares and it was nodded out to the top of the area for Vini but the defense shut that attack down before it could turn into anything dangerous.

18'

Brazil starting to pressure the back line and that leads to a corner kick for O Selecao.

17'

Ball into the area for Raphinha and he took it down off the chest hoping that one of his teammates would run on to the end of it but it was Bono clearing the lines.

16'

Brazil seem like they have got through the first wave off energy from Morocco. They look a little more comfortable and are enjoying a bit more of the ball.

14'

Vini with his first intervention in the game and he puts in a great ball to Thiago who couldn't get a head to it even though he had a great chance to nod that on goal.

12'

The pressure from Morocco has been insatiable. Brazil have had trouble even getting the ball past the halfway.

11'

Morocco have come out the much better side so far. They possess, they attack when they can and they have Brazil on the back foot.

9'

Ounahi takes a ball over in the middle of the pitch and pushed into the area, but had the space closed off before he could create anything.

7'

Brazil with their first attack up the pitch and and it's Raphinha winding up from distance but his shot doesn't get past the first defender and Morocco deals with the danger from Brazil early on.

7'

Hakimi pushing up and he had a chance to put a shot on goal, but he blows it wide looking to tuck it into the back post.

6'

El Ayanoui with a chance, the first of the day, from the top of the area and but his shot is blocked away in front of goa.

5'

Brazil come out on the back foot and it's Morocco coming out on the attack. Nothing created just yet, but they aren't intimidated coming out aginst the all time winningest team in the competition.

4'

Ball sent into the box by Brahim but it didn't get past the first defender in the area and Brazil deal with the first attack from Morocco.

4'

El Khanhouss draws a foul in a dangerous area on the left side of the area.

3'

Brazil have fire power, but can they control the game from start to finish. This is a fantastic test against a top team to see just how ready they are to impose their style of play.

2'

The sun is shining, rain should be no problem today as both of these teams look to make an early impression on the World Cup 2026.

1'

WE ARE UNDERWAY FROM NEW JERSEY!!!

The match of the group stages kicks off from the stage of the World Cup final. Will one of these teams be there on July 19th?

For Morocco, it's Bono in goal, Hakimi, Diop, Riad, and Mazouri in the back with Bouaddi and El Ayanoui in the middle. Up top we have Brahim, Ounahi and El Khannous with Salbari at the point of attack.

It's Alisson in in goal, with Ibanez, Marquinhos, Gabriel and Douglas Santos in the back, with Casemiro, Bruno Guimares in the middle and Raphinha Lucas Paqueta and Vini in the middle. Up top Thiago will be looking to test the goal of Bono.

Both teams are in the tunnel. There is no opening ceremony. There are no pregame concerts. Today is strictly soccer. In a matter of minutes the best match of the group stages is set to kick off.

World Cup favorites

The favorites and the FIFA Rankings paint two slightly different stories. When you look at the odds makers favorites you see a slight difference in order of the top teams. It’s Spain in the top spot as the slight favorites and then France, with Brazil right outside the top five behind Argentina. Morocco comes in considerably farther down the list but are still in the top 10 in most sports books. Will it be one of these teams or will we have our first real shock of the tournament in this historic World Cup hosted in three different countries.

FIFA Rankings

Taking a look at the FIFA World Rankings coming into to the first games of the tournament, we see that Argentina is still holding on to the top spot four years after winning the Worlds Cup. Right behind them sit Euro winners Spain, and runners up of the World Cup in Qatar, France. Brazil are ranked sixth on the list after England and Portugal and right behind them are Morocco. This is a heavyweight bout between two of the top teams in the tournament. A match fit for a quarter, semi or even final. Lucky us we get it three days into the tournament.

Morocco World Cup history

This is just the seventh World Cup Finals that Morocco have played in their history. Their first trip to the World Cup came in 1970 in Mexico, their next came in 1986, also in Mexico. The third one came in 1994, in the US. Strange coincidence that those are two of the three hosts of this summer's tournament. Their best finish in the World Cup before Qatar was 11th in 86 when they went to the Round of 16. Last World Cup they shocked the world getting to the semis before losing to France 2-0. It will be hard to top their last World Cup, but this team has the squad and the experience to make noise in this World Cup.

Group C schedule and preview

Group C is admittedly a bit top heavy. Brazil and Morocco are clear cut favorites to move on from this group. The question is, will Haiti (83rd in FIFA Rankings) or Scotland (40th in FIFA Rankings) have a chance to grab one of those eight third place spots that is up for grabs heading into the Round of 32. The Haiti Scotland game later tonight could be vital in that pursuit of a third place qualification for the next round. Here is the group C schedule.

Saturday, June 13, 6 p.m. (FS1): Brazil vs. Morocco, MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, New Jersey)

Saturday, June 13, 9 p.m. (FS1): Haiti vs. Scotland, Gillette Stadium (Foxboro, Massachusetts)

Brazil's World Cup history

No country has more World Cup stars on their shirt than O Selecao. They won three in four editions with Pele as the driving force behind the success as Brazil emerged as the soccer superpower in the world of international tournaments. Wins in 1958, 1962 and 1970 established them as the kings of the Cup, but they didn’t win again until 1994 when they won their fourth on US soil. They went to the final in 1998 but lost to France before Brazil’s last World Cup title which  came in 2002 from Japan and South Korea. They have been in every World Cup, and made it to the quarters or farther in the last seven editions dating back to the 1994 World Cup. They have been KOed out of the quarters in the last two editions, but this time in a country in which they have already won the Cup they will be looking for their record 6th star.

Now Ouhabi, the former U-20 coach, is in charge and this is the squad he has selected.

Last match: Brazil

The Canarihno ended their World Cup tune up tour with a game against Egypt and it was their young starlet who settled the score in the second half. Bruno Guimaraes put the Brazilian up 1-0 in the 7th minute but Egypt responded with an equalizer four minutes later. The rest of the first half would be controlled by Brazil but the first 45 ended at 1-1. Carlo Ancelotti made a mass substitution at the start of the second half and it was Endrick who made the difference with a 52nd minute goal off a pass from Raphinha.
