The Brazilian National Team is almost ready to get their 2023 World Cup campaign underway in Australia and New Zealand. The South American side are in Group F, and will play Panama in the opening fixture followed by a tough tie against France and the final match versus Jamaica.

Panama are on the other side of the scale in terms of tournament experience, as they are making their World Cup debut in this year’s tournament after sealing a place in the competition at the last second.

Without a doubt, the world’s eyes will be fixed on the top scorer in Women’s World Cup history when the two teams take to the field, as Marta looks to increase her already staggering record of 17 tournament goals in 5 World Cups.

What record can Marta break at the World Cup?

But, as the headline suggests, there is still one more hurdle for her to leap over, and one that she could well achieve in Brazil’s 2023 tournament opening game. The 37-year-old forward will play her final World Cup this year and everyone is ready and waiting for her to become the first ever player to score in six editions of the World Cup.

This is not just a record for the women’s edition of the tournament, either, as no male player has managed to do so in their version of the showpiece event. Marta would not only be making history (again) for women’s sport, but football in general.

Brazil are out for revenge against France in Australia

Brazil lost in the Round of 16 against France in 2019, the team that they will face in the group stage this year: Les Bleus drew against Jamaica 0-0 in their opening game.

In the event that Brazil win the group, they will likely face one of Colombia or South Korea, barring a surprise that sees Germany not top the group, who could well be the opponent waiting for the South American side were they to wobble in the first round.
